Drivers Exhaust Manifold leak. DIY?

Hello all,

Have an exhaust leak so I took it to a muffler shop to locate it. They used their stethoscope and found the drivers exhaust manifold has a crack in it. He told me if I could remove it, he would weld it. I just watched a video of someone saying the 2 motor mount bolts will need to be removed in order to remove the heat shield to get to the exhaust manifold. Just wondering if this was true or if anyone has an easier way to R&R the manifold.

Thanks in advance!

Leo

I wouldn't do that. The manifolds are a known problem. You might fix one crack to have another show up in a week or month. Or the other manifold may crack. Look up Cajun Bpipes. they have what you need. There are many threads her that will explain what needs to be done and how to do it. I'm going with the full setup later this spring or early summer.
Best bang for the buck and you won't risk having to do the job twice.

Cajun pipes are not in my budget right now. Is there a direct fit that is 50 state compliant? I live in California and that exhaust manifold has a cat right on it.

Either way, is the way to remove the manifold correct? Do I have to disconnect engine from the engine mount and raise it?

Yes you have to loosen the engine mounts to remove it.

I also found a thread that this can be removed thru the fender well. I'm going to investigate this way before I commit to loosening motor mount bolts. Mine is a 2wd as the posters was. I'll report back with my findings this weekend.
