Towing: Armada vs. QX56

Just curious; the 2012 Armada has a 5.6L/317HP setup and can tow 9000/9100 lbs. The same year QX56 has a 5.6L/400HP and can tow 8900/9000, even though the QX has a 7 speed tranny vs. 5 speed on the Nissan. What accounts for the difference?

more vehicle weight means less available towing weight. Applies to everything. I am sure the qx has a lot of luxuries the nissan does not. also a few mods to the 5.6 would get you that 400hp plus some. It is the same motor.

The 2012 QX is based on the Patrol platform, which is different from the 2012 Armada which was based off the Titan platform. This is why they had different tow limits and payload capacities.

different tranny and motor (VVEL DIG engine) more HP, hbmc on the top end qx. qx is a little heavier (if memory serves). more perks over the armada of that year.

the latest armada and qx have the same tranny/motor but the armada has a different ecm program for the engine than the qx (one takes 85 octane minimum, the qx is RECOMMENDED to have high test petrol., lest you get slower/poor performance)

Cold air intake, programmer, chipped, engine build upgrades and removal of unnecessary things like emissions depending on where you live. May not be cheap but it can be done.

You can add headers, high flow cats, (or catless b-pipes) a good exhaust and a tune and push 400 hp. Look into Cajun B-pipes and see what they have. I did the full treatment. It really woke up our 2011.

With the uprev tune you can have 5 different tunes installed that are instantly available through the cruise control buttons.
