I was planning on purchasing a 2006 Nissan Armada LE 4WD when I finally got a call back from another car dealer. They agreed to the purchasing price I was asking for on a 2008 Toyota Sequoia 4WD Platinum. The difference in price is not meaningful due to the the difference in miles and equipment. I will say though that the price for the Sequoia is about $10,000 more than the Nissan and it has more miles. They both have clean records and have been properly maintained. I am having a difficult time choosing between the two. They both tow 9000+ pounds with the towing package (which is what I drag a few times during the year) and have proper 4WD systems for pulling out the boat/cars stuck in the ditch because of snow/etc. and cargo capacity for carrying extra passengers and/or stuff. I plan on keeping this vehicle for the next 10 years. Which would you suggest?

Hard to exactly say since you don't have the specifics of the two trucks. 10K more is a good bit for a truck with more miles. Having said that, the Sequoia is nice- nicer than an 06 Mada. The Sequoia has a nice powertrain and very functional interior. In my mind, the best Sequoia is a loaded SR5 b/c a Platinum is rather pricey for that level of quality and luxury. But for 15/20K less, I'm OK with it.

I struggled with the Sequoia/Armada choice a year ago. I think it comes down to this - Are you OK with an extra 10k of your cash tied up in the Toyota?

From my research, any extra $$ that I put into the Toyota was going to come back to me when I sold it, through much higher resale prices. So, Paying $10k more at purchase, to then get $8-$10k back at sale, meant I was just parking the cash.

Was I OK with that? Not really. I found a 2012 Armada for a steal, probably $15k less than an equivalent Sequoia. I'm happy with that, as is the Wife.

My $0.02

When I was looking for a new SUV to replace my Excursion. I was caught between the Sequoia and the Armada. I was just looking at Sequoia Platinums that we're going for $30k that were 2008's with over 100k. I found my 2010 Armada Platinum Flex Fuel with 62k for $25k. The Armada's are terrible in terms of resale but if you plan to keep it forever then it is the better truck. I would look for an 08+ Armada. Seems like all the kinks got worked out.
