2021 Nissan Armada (and QX) - Computer and Electronics Issues Master Thread

The infotainment system in my 2021 Armada is extremely glitchy. The volume control will get stuck on navigation voice volume and will not allow me to change the volume on the radio or the volume of a caller on Bluetooth. In addition, the direct tune knob does not scroll through station on satellite radio. Lastly, periodically the system randomly shuts down and reboots all by itself while I am driving.

When the volume control gets stuck on Navigation voice volume I have to hold down the on/off button for 15 seconds to do a hard reboot to get the ability to adjust the radio volume again.

I took it into the dealer and they told me that these glitches are because the cellphones I have paired to the radio have operating system versions higher than what the radio can handle. They said I need to be patient and these bugs will work themselves out via future system updates.

Hard to believe that a vehicle at this price has such nuisances in its performance. Anyone with the same experience? Is the Dealer Service Center feeding me a line?

I want to get enough people together to do a class action lawsuit against Nissan for selling us a 2021 Armada knowing that it has navigation and radio problems and not divulging this before purchase to me that is fraud .
Please people don’t let them get away with it !
I have a 21 Platinum Armada and have had problems with the screen since I got it. They replaced the radio and it still doesn’t work properly. The TVs in the backseat also don’t work. I agree that Nissan should be held accountable for selling vehicles with so many problems. I’m willing to join a lawsuit.

I have had everything swapped internally to include a whole new unit, still does it. I wil lsay this though, mine always does it at the same locations, so I am wondering if there is something Frequency wise that is interfering and causing the unit to reset on me?

Any Luck, we have a lemon law attorney currently.
I just got my offer from Nissan Arbitration for a buy back, so I was successful. Infotainment was replaced twice and it still cuts out randomly. Almost daily. but then it will give me a break until I get comfortable. then cut out again. Thinking about a Tahoe but not sure what to do. Loved the value proposition of this car.

Jumping in to follow any updates on this issue. Mine will go blank periodically, but comes back up with all settings intact. Annoying, but not horrible.
My entire infotainment was replaced twice, issues persist. Nissan is buying my vehicle back and I'm getting something else. Lemon Law in California is pretty strict.

Has anyone had the Telematics box replaced ? My 22 has had the controller replaced with no improvement.
The lemon law in Maryland is strict also. That’s my next step.
Glad I found my people finally! We purchased our '21 Armada Platinum in May. Traded in a perfectly fine '17 really just to get the infotainment 'upgrades'. We are experiencing similar issues. The main one is that the system will reboot without warning. Sometimes continuously (10x in a row). Very hard to use the Navigation system. Invariably it happens when I am trying to get somewhere I am not familiar with and the screen goes blank. When the reboot happens, I often loose all my stored address book entries and have to reenter them. On several occasions I have lost all the POI data in the navigation system. Lasted SW updates do not help. Yesterday I provided my dealer with a disk of 21 video occurrences I recorded on my phone of the system glitches. This is the third time it has been at the dealer for issues. Yesterday I also filed a complaint with Nissan Consumer Affairs and have a case number. Nissan Tech wanted to give me an assignment to do a major research project and collect data for them. I declined and told them to fix the vehicle, provided them the case number. Let's see what happens.

Sorry to hear about your issues. Same issue with my 22. From what I gather from talking to consumer affairs and the dealer is that they have no idea what the cause is for this. I would like to hear from someone who has had the Telematics box replaced.

Dealer told me that Nissan Tech is saying that phone connectivity is the issue. They wanted me to drive the car for one week each with each of our phones connected via Bluetooth and hardwired and collect data on the reactions. They seem to want to blame the Apple product SW upgrades. I'm quite sure that Apple has provided a detailed interface control document to any manufacturer that has implemented Apple Car Play and isn't changing it without sufficient notice. All our phones are Apple devices.
apple do not provide detailed data of any of their software -- vendors who want to use any apple software do not have the right to look at the source code (kernel level) of car play or their firmware in their os/ios. this is why the tech is asking for this info to compare it to other os (android, microsoft, etc).

happy to hear someone has gotten a case number and nissan are finally admitting it and trying to fix this. many people who bought these new cars got them mainly for the new infotainment as it seems nissan are finally competing with American based manufacturers in this arena. im sure the chip shortages and thigns associated with this shutdown have also caused some pains with this as well.

Phones have nothing to do with the problem. I have driven with phones connected or even present. Same issues.
This forum is somewhat disappointing in the all of the owners should be opening a case with N consumer affairs.

WithOUT.
Agreed! How do I do that, in all 7 of my Nissans and 4 Armadas deep I’ve never been this dissatisfied!!

I replaced my ‘21 system same problems. My hope was to get a ‘22 version 🤦🏽‍♀️ guess that’s a no go too!

never said they were champ.

i explained that apple are not open source so they don't give out their firmware or any data on the kernel of their os/ios. i never said the phone or any phone, is the cause of these issues.
I am the minority here. I have a 2022 and I had all the problems expressed here. In December, I received the OTA software push and it fixed every problem. I took the vehicle on a 2500 mile trip and really wrung it out. No problems.

My dealer got all of my vehicles software and specs and passed them to his Nissan tech rep.
The service rep said he was told it was a problem with the vehicle transmitter ability to upload data to the Nissan mothership. He does not believe it has anything to do with phones or phone software.

Just applied another OTA update, right behind Apples coincidentally. Seems to get better each time. On an iPhone 13 Mini now, it’s connecting well. Good to hear good news every once in a while.

If you read my reply it does not suggest you were stating a cause. I don't understand your smartass reply.

Hello BrianM,
This is good news for all of us. thanks for passing this along. Unfortunately I have a 22, installed the upgrade in early December, but still have the resetting issue with the occasional hard reset. The sw version has been verified and re-verified. Any chance you can pass along the techs contact info ? or possibly the TSB ? I'm dealing with a Baltimore area dealer. They're trying to be helpful but not getting much help from NIssan. I was told today that 'they are working on this'.
@MarkNo ,

sad how you took my post that way and you had to resort to name calling. "champ" is a term of endearment like "brotha" or "boss". you clearly did not feel this way, but why get defensive ? i dont know you and have no desire to throw shade at you.

my point was simply in response to another post not directed to you. you asserted your input which was incorrect with what my point was.

So......8 months later, I just installed the second update that Nissan pushed across. I must admit, a number of issues that I originally wrote about above have seemed to been resolved. The direct tune knob finally scrolls through stations on satellite radio and I haven't notice the volume control knob getting stuck on the navigation voice volume. Also, my infotainment system would reboot itself randomly 4 to 5 times a month after the first system update was installed a few months ago and that now seems to have been resolved, as well. Fingers crossed that the experience keeps on getting better. I love how this truck drives. It did great in the 12 inches of snow we got last week. If these electronic irritants keep improving, I'll become more of a fan. Now all they have to do is fix the seatbelt warning system scheme for rear passengers (but that a completely different post). I hope everyone is experiencing better performance with this latest push.

MarkNo - I don’t have the Nissan Corp technical POC. My dealer service manager is Chris at Lexington Park Nissan (also in Maryland).

Thanks. I’m working with N engineering now, but communications go through N Consumer Affairs. I’ll mention this to them. Thanks again. It’s reassuring to see that someone has made progress on this .

1800 Nissan5. Be sure to tell them you want to open a case. I was told that they are working 4 cases. I’m sure there are more issues than that based on this forum. The more of us that open a case, the more attention this will get.
I have had 5 Nissans over 35 years. This Armada is the 6th. Not out of blind loyalty, just great service until now.

I would return the automobile to the dealer and tell them buy back under lemon law that new of suv this early would be a huge concern especially for the money you have put into it I have av2004 I purchased new in October 2003 I had a few concerns after my purchase they tried to tell me a lot of different maybes all in all 7 mo later I received a new armada

hey folks. Bought our 21 Armada in July and we’re experiencing ALL of the issues listed in this thread. We live in the state of Georgia and we’re exercising our Lemon Law rights.

I contacted corporate and have been getting CRAZY runaround. They’re even trying to not abide by the Georgia state Lemon Law guidelines that says they HAVE to replace the vehicle at no cost to the customer. It’s a mess and I’m also someone who has owned 7 Nissans, 5 of which were brand new. I have been a FAITHFUL Nissan customer but they have truly lost us on this one… we will NEVER purchase another Nissan. Their arbitrators are extremely unprofessional and have lied several times. We love the vehicle, but if I’m spending over $50k for a vehicle, there’s no way I’m going to be dealing with volume that sticks, backup cameras that go blank, displays that reboot, heat that stops working, cellphone chargers over heating the phones (iPhone 12’s), backup sensors going out, speakers popping,….

Yeah that’s a no-go for me
