I just purchased my Armada about three weeks ago and periodically while driving there will be a pretty loud noise that sounds kind of like the engine being revved up. It also affects the acceleration and when I push a bit more on the gas it will continue to speed up but not as quickly as I know that it should. I took it back to the Nissan dealership and they said the noise is from the cooling fan being engaged, but if that's the case, I didn't think that would effect how the car would accelerate. Anyone else have this issue before or any thoughts?

The good thing is, it’s new. I’d drive it like normal and if it throws a cod or CEL, take it in. I’ve got a ‘21 and the fan is LOUD on these trucks. I haven’t experienced any throttle response issues, slow or hindered acceleration, nothing like that but at startup, it roars for 10 seconds or so - not every time but when it’s warmer or already warm.

Same with us, like 10 minutes ago? Drives fine but high pitch whine. We have had about 3 weeks also. Taking back in Monday

It's still occurring even after startup. I don't believe it has anything to do with the cooling fan. It literally sounds like the car is engaged in neutral and the RPM's rev when it happens while driving. It happened again just today right at startup, pulling out the driveway it'll get up to 2-3000 RPM just going 10 MPH. Definitely not normal.

If you don't mind, let me know any feedback they give you. I don't think it's a cooling fan issue at all. It definitely sounds like an issue that the gears aren't shifting right as it literally sounds like the vehicle is in neutral and hits the high RPMs (2-3K)

Yeah, the high rpm’s aren’t normal.

Did the issue get fixed at the dealership? Also what code or CEL did it throw?

2023 Armada with 2100 miles on it and we are experiencing the same thing. The RPM increase is not proportionate to the speed increase compared to how it first worked for us... or for any other vehicle we own for that matter. The engine and transmission is definitely engaged, but its like the torque converter isn't functioning right or something...... if it were a good old standard shift, it would be like having the clutch slightly engaged to allow slippage but still make the car go.... kind of. Feels like a weak 4 cylinder and definitely not the V8.... the 2019 NV3500 passenger van we traded in for this Armada had the same V8 and it was far more responsive than how the Armada is behaving. I went to our dealer today and they couldn't make it reproduce the issue. no codes tripped. then it happened agian after i got back to my home town 55 miles away. I called them and described it again. The service guy I worked with wasn't there and will call me back tomorrow. He did seem like he genuinely wanted to help but without being able reproduce it at the shop for Nissan, his hands were tied. we shall see where this goes.

Whats is being described sounds like the clutch on the radiator cooling fan engaging. This will make a whirring sound that deceivingly sounds like engine rpm increasing. Along with a clutch fan, the first gen has a condenser fan that is also loud but noticed more at idle. Not sure if the second gen has a condenser fan or if it was deleted. I recall it was removed in later 1st gen vehicles.

My 2021 is doing the same thing. I can't pinpoint when it will do it, but it's usually right after I crank it or when I have to brake quickly. It is driving me crazy! Please update if you find out what it is. I definitely don't think it's the fan.

I have 2 friends who purchased 2023 Armadas and are experiencing the exact same thing. The first friend brought hers in November 2022 and has not been able to drive it more than 2 weeks without it being in the shop. The engine revs up extremely high and whines with very little output or acceleration. They have replaced her fan clutch and transmission; but to no avail. She just got her car back 1 week ago and it is still doing the same thing. As a matter of fact, it is worst now with the 2 replaced parts. Now, it does not accelerate when the gas is pushed to the floor. This is a true safety issue.

My other friend purchased hers in January 2023 and within 1,500 miles she began having issues with the high revving sound. At first, it was an occasional issue but has gotten to be a more consistent. It is embarrassing to have such a beautiful vehicle that is ”screaming” high RPM’s. She has taken her vehicle to 3 dealerships and 2 out of 3 state they have never heard of this happening to the Armadas. I find that to be a blatant untruth. This forum proves that!!

I am happy to have located this forum and will share with them so they can learn about this issue and try to figure out what to do. Their desires are to get out of this monster truck; but Mike Smith Nissan dealers are reportedly stating there is not an issue with this loud revving engine and that the vehicle is still functional. Yeah, it may be functioning but at what quality level?

Any advice on what direction we need to go to get some help with this issue?

Thanks,
Cheryl

I went to the dealer and they replaced the fan clutch, apparently, it was sticking causing the loss of engine power and the noise. I hope this helps if anyone else is having the same problem.
Thank you for this post. I have a new 2023, 2 months old and we are having the same issue and same response that they have never heard of it. Will be bringing to dealership tomorrow with this post.

We have a New 2022 that we purchased in December. We just took it on a trip, and it was doing this exact thing. We could not figure it out. I hope someone figures it out. I haven't taken ours to the shop. I also know, I'm sure that it won't make the noise while there, and they won't know what the problem is.

My ‘21 just rolled over 40k miles…I hold my breath just a little each morning when I fire it up for the first time. No major roaring issues yet, nothing near 2k RPM’s, jumped up to 1k the other morning but just for 3-5 seconds right after startup. So far so good, but I’m glad this thread is here, just in case I need it.
