I have a 5.1 channel DVD player and would like to get the full range of audio instead of just the 2 front channels. You guys think this would work?

No. The headunit is just stereo. There are only left and right audio going into the unit from the backside of the aux jack so no matter how many wires you plug into it there is still only left and right to the headunit.
Thanks.. I saw some similar posts on the mp3car forums showing how to take 5.1 audio from a pc (carputer) to the aux jack of your car stereo.. thought it might work the same way here.. Even if it did work, that'd be a lot of wires :D

You are still only going to get stereo out but maybe it would combine all of the seperated 5.1 channels into 2, inproving the quality? I would bet your dvd has a setting for the audio. I would just turn off the 5.1 and set it to stereo.

mp3car huh? so you thinking of a carpc? I've been over there for the last couple of weeks thinking about building one. If I didn't already have the factory NAV I would of bought the equipment already. I basically want just a media player for mp3/divx and some cool visulazations.....plus just the cool factor it would add :3d_004: lol
Schematic will not work. The .1 channel is the sub. It's going to have to be blended into both the left and right channels. So will the center channel in the front. The left and right front channels can go to the left and right stereo with no problem, however. What to do with the surround rears is very, very debatable.

As stated above, the best solution is to go into the menu of the DVD when it first boots up on your player and select "stereo" as the playback mode, rather than 5.1. All those choices will have already been made for you and it will play properly.
