AC TSB Help

2893 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  casinojames
I just had the AC TSB done last week. The AC seems to cool down alot faster now. But heres my problem; when ever I turn the HVAC system at all the AC compressor turns on. Even if the AC button is off. I tried it on all the settings but the compressor stays on. Is this the wat the new TSB makes the AC function? This does not seem right. Please if anyone has any ideas on this fill me in. Otherwise it's back to the dealer........again. Thanks Joe

Do you have it set on Max Cool?
No not on Max Cool. Just on Regular AC settings.
If you ever turn the air control to Defrost the A/C compressor will stay on until you shut off the engine, even if you turn the A/C off.

I'm glad I stumbled across this posting. I was just getting ready to call the dealer and try and have them identify the problem. I thought that my A/C was stuck on! It was just as you noted, I turned on the Defrost for five minutes and then turned it back to vent and the cold air was just pouring out. I couldnt figure out how to turn it off. Is there a fix for this?

From the manual, page 4-14 (2004 model)

"When the defrost position is selected, the air conditioner automatically turns on (however, the indicator light on the A/C button will not come on and A/C will not appear on the display, if so equipped) if the outside temperature is more than 36 F (2 C). If in defrost mode for more than one minute, the air conditioning system will continue to operate until the fan control dial is turned to OFF or the vehicle is shut off, even if the air flow control dial is turned to a position other than the defrost position. This dehumidifies the air which helps defog the windshield."
Ok this makes sense. I tested it out and when it's just as what you guys said. If you use the defrost in the morning then just switch the selector to the vent only the air stays on. However I shut the car off an tried it again and this time the AC did not come on. Thank You for explaining it, you guys saved me a trip to the dealer and looking like a fool in front of the techs.
Gotta love this site.!!! Again Thanks Joe
I did a thorough test following the manual. After running the defrost for 2 minutes I moved the selector to the vents and turned the fan selector to "0" or "off" as stated in the manual. I even waited for over a minute and turned the selector to "1". The A/C still came back on but the light was off. But as it say's when you turn the engine off and re-start, the vents blow ambient air. Doesn't make sense. Let's say your on a freeway using the defroster then you want to switch it to vent only. You'd have to pull over and shut off the engine and start it again to get outside air.
tell the A/C to "stop it!"

I think I remember fixing the problem by turning the AC ON and running it for a while, then turning it off again. If I remember, I pressed the AC light (nothing happened), again (light and AC on), and again (light and AC off). Try it and see if it works.
Why I love this site.

Every thing wrong with my truck has been on this forum. Thanks Club Armada!!
