Dose anyone know how to install an additional roof rack crossbar? I'm planning on adding one more and wonder if it's painless to install.

Thanks, Fred

Fred, you have to remove the plastic covers on the side rails to install the crossbar. The covers have four screws holding them on; two Phillips located under the folding tie down rings, and two Torx head screws on top of the covers. Once you get the covers off you can slide the second crossbar into the side rails and replace the covers.

Thanks scr38!!! I'm going to go ahead and order them.

Gunslinger,

Just a thought, GregV at Mossy in Carlsbad quotes pretty good prices. He's a sponsor on this site also. I totally forgot about asking him...
Let me know if you ask him. I'll try to call him later today for a quote.

Thanks, I forgot too because I bought a Mossy cat back for our Alty when he worked at Quality Nissan here in Temecula for about a year. I knew he went back to Mossy too and didn't think to call him.

My 05 only came with one on the back and one on the front by wind shield.. I was thinking maybe the whole front bar and bracket would slide on the roof track. There seems to be a track going the whole roof length from what i saw from afar. I could be wrong though

I purchased one from http://www.nissanpartsdistributor.com
for $80.00 including shipping and handling. Still haven't installed it yet. I purchased it primarily to put my Thule cargo box on. I was a bit disappointed at the design of the roof rack as the two bars at the closest points still did not allow my thule box to install. I am pretty sure If I install the two bars at the back and install my thule box , the rear hatch door will hit the box when fully opened. Another issue to deal with

Not sure which Thule box you are using, but you can add holes to your Thule box to adjust how it sits on the cross bars.

I have an Adventurer (full length, half the width of the roof) and I drilled additional holes for the u-bolts for a couple of different scenarios. One was to mount on the Armada (bars are slightly farther apart). Another was so I could push the box outboard on my Volvo cross bars to allow for two bikes on the other side. Just be sure to use some duct tape or similar to cover up the holes you are not using.

I drilled additional holes in my Yakima Rocket Box to fit the wider span. It worked out extremely well. With the flat cross bars, I think it is more secure then using the Yakima cross bars on our van.

I have a Thule evolution 1600. It has sliding U bar connector which is a great feature but even if I slide the bars out to the farthest postion, it still wont fit on my Armada. Not sure if I cam drill holes as the sliding connector has a snap in kind of thing inside to snap on.
