Someone got me today... guess because I have an nice looking SUV and they don't they decided to key my passengers side rear door. Not a deep scratch, but deep enough to the point where it cant be buffed out. Went by the dealership, and they told me it would cost $500 to repaint door. I dont want to pay this much for a scratch that is about 3 inches long. Does any anyone know of any products that would cover the discoloration up. BTW, I have an odd color...sedona (burnt orange color). Probably not too many auto shops carry this color.

I'd go to a body shop. Its a standard Nissan color, even if they didn't make many. Body shops buy paint as needed. They may be able to glaze the scratch, feather in the paint, and clear coat it for a lot less. My buddy's wife backed his new Mazda 5 in bright yellow with 150 miles on it into the side of his garage door and put a 18" scratch on the door. Zoom Zoom. He got if fixed for a little more than $100. ;)

If the scratch is only a few inches, it may have been accidental. If someone was keying your car to be a dick I think they would have done a lot longer line.

In any event, body shops order paint as needed and mix it to match. The color code is on your door plate and that's what they use to make your color. They don't store ever single color ever made, know what I mean.

Anyway, this will cost you anywhere from $100-$500 depending on how large the scratch is and if it's close enough to other panels where they will have to blend it to the new panel. Most decent places will charge around $200-250, so try finding someone to fix it for you in that price range. Good luck!

My thing is, it will never look as good as factory paint and I will always be able to tell it was repainted. This really just pisses me off.

It would piss me off too. The quality depends. Older paint, this doesn't work very well as it is weathered and slightly faded. This means it won't match. If yours is new or close to it, it can usually be fixed to a point you can't tell.
Good luck.

Dealth Penalty for parking tickets, that's what Steve Martin once said for population control. Same goes for keying. Based on how short it is though I'd agree it was maybe something else less deliberate, but no less rude.

I saw a Green Peace guy on TV talking about how they were out to destroy SUVs. :chainsaw:
Even the French hate GreenPOS. Remember, they sank their dumb boat? One thing I can respect the French for. Too bad they pulled the survivors out of the water. :machinegu
