Hi my name is Gretchen, I have a 2004 Armada. I have now had my SUV in twice with rotor problems. I have also filed two case files with Nissan. Apparently, Nissan is perfectly aware of this manufactures defect. They put car rotors on this massive vehicle for stopping power. I carry kids in my car everyday and I have a real safety concern. I see that some of you have also had this problem. If you have found a way to fix it let me know. Nissan says they don't have a solution yet. I sure hope I don't have a major accident before they figure it out.

Hi Gretchen. Try going to the "Problems" forum, then the "Brakes" sub heading. There is a section dedicated to this issue. The brakes aren't designed for cars. They are the correct size. The problem is they got poorly constructed rotors and pads. They warp and wear excessively but still have the proper stopping power and safety is not an issue in any way.

This problem is indemic in Nissan. My Infiniti G35 had the same problems. They must have signed a contract with a brake part maker who sent them bad stuff. They have replaced my G35 brakes with new different rotors and pads and they are doing the same for the Armadas.

Nissan has owned up to the problem, has issued tech service bulletins and will repair them for free. They now replace the rotors with the new pads and rotors for a permanent fix. Same size, different maker. They have even extended the warranty for everyone on brakes. If you have a problem, go to the dealer. If your dealer is saying they put car rotors on an SUV, we don't have a fix, etc. get a different dealer. Welcome to the board.

I just had the permanent fix done two weeks ago, very early '04 build date 9/03. Previously, the rotors replaced 2 times, with 4 total brake fixes(five counting the permanent one). All of us have this problem, they extended the brake warranty to 3 years unlimited miles for all parts (no wear and tear clause). They are basically having a rolling recall on this issue. That way it's not an official recall. New fix is great..better pedal feel too. The first day the pads needed to be broke in, had brake fade real bad...now it is great.
