Armada turned Racecar...Volant G3 installed!

Holy cow...holy cow...holy cow! This thing is a friggin' trip! Just open up the exhaust and let her breathe a bit better and I swear to you she has turned into a tiger! But a sleepy one...b/c at low speeds, just regular driving...you hardly hear the exhaust and you certainly do not appreciate the intake. WOW!

Volant G3 could use some stinkin' directions for the mechanically challenged like me. And you do NOT need to remove the washer reservoir. Don't ask me how I know this...actually did not have it all the way removed b4 noting to self that it could stay.

Combined with the Gibson...this thing is a VERY nice rig...as if it wasn't nice enuf already. Now she rips!

Highly recommend.

Sounds great. How does the Armada feel when doing the "normal" driving like stop and go traffic, parking, etc. I'm sure when you punch it, you can feel it, but how about just normal driving. Does it feel punchier? or less.

You got the exact setup I'm going to get. So I'm just wondering how it effects everyday driving, not just 0-60 or 1/4 mile times.
It seems to me that at normal everyday speeds/driving, that it shifts to OD at a lower speed and just lopes along more freely (read: more torque). I am turning a shade over 1100 rpm at 45 mph on flat ground! Seems like it was more like 1400 rpm or so before? Maybe not...maybe you can tell me. It definately has more grunt down low, even off idle just taking off easy. The nice thing, as I mentioned, is that she will now seemingly LEAP at any speed when asked, but otherwise is very well mannered and you can hardly tell (audibly) that anything has been done. Best of both worlds, really. HIGHLY RECOMMEND these two mods. Would imagine similar results with Borla duals, but there is that question of "where" the power kicks in, etc, as brought up in previous threads.

No rpm change

No that isn't right. Speed and RPM are gearing dependent not torque. Torque will just make you get there faster and pull more/easier at the same RPM. Engine just works less hard with the bigger lungs (intake) and intestines (pipes), and colon (muffler) hehe, less restriction but doesn't drop RPM.
FL is correct; RPM to speed is a gearing ratio. However it is possible to see a RPM drop under certain conditions. The converter lockup could come earlier (at a lower speed) with more engine HP/torque. So if the converter is locked at a speed lower than it did before the increase in power, it is possible to see a difference only around that speed. Once the converter is locked up nothing other than gearing change will lower the RPM.
how much did you lay down for those mods?
$790 for both delivered to my door from SoCal. Seems like it was $240 for the CAI and $500 for the Gibson...plus $50 shipping.

noise from volant g3

I have a 06 LE 4x4 with tech and I just installed the volant gent3. Took me about 45 min and the install wasn't bad. There was a little rubber hose that came from deep in the engine well that was just attached to the original airbox. Where did you all mount it after the volant install? also, my volant sings loud when you mash the pedal. It's not the throatiest sound. anyone with this "singing" experience? If I go half throttle the sound is better otherwise it's pretty loud. any advice y'all?
I think your experiencing what I described in this, or maybe another related thread. I am going to go to an Audio place and get some sound dampening material and line the underside of the top and maybe the majority of the plastic box. It is likely smooth on the outer shell, so it should not impede the performance of the Volant in anyway, IMHO...rather just tone the "singing" down a couple of octaves. :p

The small hose is the vent for the front diff. Use a wire tie and fasten it to any place around the original location.

Thanks, I'll tie it off somewhere. In regards to the singing of the volant gen3, if anyone has applied that audio stuff please let me know how it works. The singing is funny because my kids get a kick out of it but my wife doesn't care for it much at all. Other cars in the lanes next to me hear it when I accelerate and then you get punks who want to race you. I can't believe this...punks in accords, civics trying to race my SUV!!!!!!!! All I am doing is moderate acceleration but the sound is like a challenge cry. I guess these hormonally pumped up punks have nothing better to do. My wife hates it because these punks keep accelerating and slowing down to do it all over and unfortunately they are on the passenger lane staring at my blonde wifey who's clueless about this macho bravado crap.

I feel ya Doc. I don't even have any mods and I still get dudes trying to mess with me. I occasionally indulge and put the random expedition or dakota to shame.
Hey Doc,

Just noticed in another post that your a MDA? I am a CRNA here in Little Rock, AR. There is a Doc you might know that was from Houston, b/c I am sure there is only 1 hospital in that tiny town? LOL....anyway he has family down there and still has connections, etc. His name is Jim Muller, MD.

As for the audio stuff? I plan on doing it this week, but have had the head plague since Tuesday and just been laying around the house this weekend watching ballgames trying to shake it w/o anitbiotics. I like to try to give the body a fighting chance b4 I intervene, LOL. I plan on doing something about the said "singing" this week and will post a new "updated" thread upon completion.

Later,

Scott

I feel ya! I like to try to accelerate to 3500 rpm b4 letting it shift, just barely > 1/2 gas...and even so, I have had to PROVE myself to a couple people already. Smoked them both. ;-) Not saying it is a "racecar" as I first implied, of course...but this baby will certainly spank any other SUV on the market. I feel pretty sure about THAT, having owned a Tahoe b4 but maybe a Yukon Denali with the 6.0L might roll past me? Dunno.

So Doc...you got the VG3 but what about the exhaust? What do you have installed again?

VG3 with Gibson SS Single here.
