The new Nissan Armada VS. The redesigned Dodge Durango (without the Hemi). I want to get opinions from anyone wanting to talk about the differences of the two SUV’s. Edmonds.com lists the new Durango as a full size SUV. I parked my 04’ Armada 4X4 next to one and it certainly does not look like a full size SUV. Looks like baby food for the Armada. :D I want to here people opinions. Thanks. Dealers Suck!

All I can tell you is that I traded in my '05 Durango Limited w/HEMI for an '05 Armada LE.

I put about 7,800 miles on the Durango, with nothing but trouble as far as engine performance is concerned. From a dead stop, it would take off like a bucking bronco. Took it to the dealer many times to "flash" the computer to no avail. And, miraculously, they couldn't duplicate the effect I was experiencing. Then, to top it off, it stalled on me twice. Once while at a red light and once while driving in a rainstorm. :censor:

I had had enough at that point. Luckily I was not upside down as the car I traded in on the Durango was paid off and they gave me $14,000 for it. So far, I have put about 2,800 miles on the Armada. And it just goes where pointed. Very nice. A little noisier than the Durango inside the cabin, but, you know what?....I don't really care. The Armada rocks.

Used to own a 99 Durango. When it came time to replace it, we looked at the new re-designed one. More room, more power, more towing, better looks, I could go on and on. The only negative to the Armada was that, comparably equipped, the Durango was 7 to 8 thousand less.

As you can tell, we went with the Armada, and don't regret it (despite four sets of front brakes!).

No Comparison

There really isnt a comparison. They may call the Durango full size but it is really mid size. I had one for a month right before I got my Armada (rental while my commuter was being fixed from an accident). The 2nd row seating is small and the 3rd row is a joke, the gas mileage wasnt good, the interior fit/finish was cheap, and the performance was overrated. I laugh now at people who I see with them. They must have fell in love with the "Hemi" name.................

Someone was trolling before saying they bought an Armada and the 3rd row was smaller than Durango. Not sure how they figured that.

I wanted to make sure I compared apples:apples, so I looked at a Durango Limited: Armada LE.

The Durango's 3rd row *seemed* a bit roomier to my 6'2" frame, but I realized it was the slightly better headroom. It has much less leg room than the Armada though. The area behind the 3rd row is a little bit bigger in the Armada as well. It seemed like the Durango's 2nd and 3rd row floor space was more equally distributed while the Armada's gave slightly more space to the 2nd row. In my mind, this is what made the D's 3rd row a wee bit more roomy while the A's 2nd row was definately more roomy.

The LE I was looking at had the Tech. & Sunroof packages. The Durango Limiteds I looked at did not. To add those things to the Durango ended up coming out to anywhere from $5k-8k additional cost. The LE just seemed to give you more for the money in terms of bells and whistles.

As for the interior, it did seem 'cheap' and the engine overly responsive and clumsy at times.

Dodge Durango is classified as a mid-sized SUV. However, it is by far the largest of the mid-sized vehicles.

The Durango is significantly cheaper than an Armada. I live in Southern Cali and the highest MSRP Durango I could find was $42k. With incentives it was going for 35, and that's with Nav, leather, and DVD. An SE 4x4 Armada can't even be had for that much. With good reason, the Armada is a much larger, more refined vehicle that doesn't even deserve direct comparisons to a Durango.

The Durango is without doubt the most powerful mid-sized SUV on the market. It can tow like an ox, and offers a nice package, and is an attractive design, but the Durango cannot offer what every other mid-size cannot offer....capacity to make long distance trips with 4-6 occupants in comfort. Comfort to strech-out and relax, so the trip is much less stressful.

The Armada offers other advantages, but gee-gaws can be added to most any vehicle....size cannot.

Guess it's a California thing.
We call them do-hickeys and whatcha-ma-jiggers and what-not on the east coast. Just ask big Paul Teutul from OCC and he'll tell you he can put a size 12 up your gee-gaw. :moon:

BTW, the Durango is smaller, like the Sequoia. Both are not quite full size. They should have 5 sizes. The Rav 4 size, the pathfinder size, the sequoia size, the Tahoe, and the excursion. The Armada falls between Tahoe and excursion, but is more on the excursion size. Maybe Compact, small, mid size, full size, and oversized?
