I might get 22" Oynx Lexani rims with 305/45/22 Nitto tires. Is it true that you need a bigger brake kit then??? Please help because I don't want to order those rims and tires and then find out later on that I need a bigger brake kit that'll cost over $3,000 alone
No. Bigger wheels give you more rotating mass. However, brakes stop the momentum energy of the trucks mothon, not just the rotating mass of the wheels. You will wear out your brakes a little more, but it won't significantly decrease your braking. Remember, our brakes are made to enable us to safely brake with a 9,000 trailer hooked up. Most people add bigger brakes for aestetic purposes because larger wheels allow you to see them. Stock stuff isn't impressive and looks small on large wheels. Also, most wheel guys will sell you on bigger brakes because they want the sale. 22" wheels won't require you to do anything.

Well said.

Just remember to try and keep the same overall diameter from the stock wheel/tire combo to the new aftermarket wheel /tire diameter. I kept it all the same even on 24's. So the rotational mass is the same and actually my wheel and tires are 2.5 lbs lighter on each wheel over factory.

My 2 cents.
Almost.
Here's the definition of mass.
A property of matter equal to the measure of an object's resistance to changes in either the speed or direction of its motion. The mass of an object is not dependent on gravity and therefore is different from but proportional to its weight.

Basically, its size and weight combined. Also, rims usually weigh more than rubber so larger rims with the same overall diameter usually means more weight. Forged rims weigh more than cast. More rim weight for a particular diameter usually give you more strength. Each set of rims is different. Mine add about 20 lbs a wheel with my tires, which are larger. ;)

Haha aight...thanks for all the info guys...92TripleBlack, what kind of rims & tires do you have? They look really nice, and how is the braking issue with them? How much were they, rims and tires. Thanks again for the feedback every1
The wheels and tires are in the sig. No brake problems except dusting at almost 6K. Too bad, I'd like the new parts. They cost $2200 mounted from Discount Tire. I chose them because I think they look great, are much stronger than most large chrome rims with thick spokes, and I wanted to use them for light off road and snow so I needed A/T tires. ;)
