Has anybody had any problems with car alarms in their mada's? I purchased my mada in July 05 and recently the alarm has been going off like crazy. My alarm, which was installed by Nissan, is not one that goes off from vibration or audio. My best guess is that there is a short somewhere causing the alarm to go off, what seems every 10-15 minutes. What is weird is that it only goes off at night. I know that nobody is messing with it because it is inside my garage.

1. There is no Nissan Alarm. What you have was intalled by the dealer. Typically what happens is the dealer calls a local shop and sets up a deal for alarms. I know, I used to do this. The progression is: Shop buys alarm for $150 for parts. Shop charges dealer $300 for alarm install. Dealer charges $500 from car buyer.

2. The only benefit from buying the alarm from the dealer is convience and warranty. However, the convience is usually an inconvience as you need to wait for them to get it put in instead of taking possession earlier and scheduling the install at your convience. Also, the warranty is usually a moot point as quality shops will warranty their work with as good but usually better warranty than the one you get with the car. At my shop, we warrantied the work for the life of the car.

3. It sounds either like a short, or that you have a vibration sensor, or a motion sensor. Vibration are set off by a sharp blow by not by rocking. Motion are the opposite. Test the alarm for both. Ideally you want both. The first protects from a sharp blow like busting the window. The second from towing.

4. Since only you have this alarm, the only thing you can do is bring it back to your dealer and have them get the people that installed it to troubleshoot it. Call ahead so they can coordinate getting the techs there or better still, find out who did the work and go straight to them. ;)

Triple,

He might be confusing the factory Nissan keyless entry with a true alarm. My horn will go off in mine if you open the doors while they're locked (with the windows down, of course) so actually this is a very basic factory alarm system.

Actually I was going to start a thread like this one to ask any of y'all what you recommend alarm-wise. I've had Clifford in the past, but I also have read good things about the viper alarms. I've got some stereo equipment that I'd like to protect a little better with an alarm that has breakage sensors and paging built in.

Clifford was always the best. They still are one of the best. Their Matrix is top notch.
Compustar looks interesting but I haven't had direct exposure. ;)

Course always remember, you get what you pay for, and these aren't cheap or easy to install. :itsfriday

BTW I hope your horn isn't beeping because the remote is in your pocket. Happens to me sometimes. ;)

Maybe you have something that is draining the battery and alarm is sensing the drain?

You know you can turn the horn beeping off if you want from the system settings menu.

On the stock doorlock. I think he has an aftermarket alarm but he hasn't responded.

I do have an after market alarm. Nissan did check it and said they had to reset it. Well, it worked for one day, so I am taking it back. I told them to check out some rattling windows and they told me that all madas do this and that this is the nature of the beast! LOL One battle at a time.....

I have to call the out of town dealership to see exactly what after market alarm system they put in it.

Thanks for the info. Problem, dealership I bought vehicle is over 5 hours away. Should have bought it locally I guess.
You would've paid too much, I tried the Yuma dealer and their prices were insane!

What caught my attention is that you indicated the problem only occuring at night. I'm not sure if the 04 Armadas came with the feature for the headlights to come on at night automatically. I know there is a photosensor that trips this feature when it get's dark and might be interferring with the installed alarm. Just as a hunch, I was wondering if your alarm will present the same problem if you set your lights to the off setting completely, then arming the alarm.

Same Problem different solution

My alarm was dealer addon to the factory system and I had very similar problems.

(The alarm guy said it is a problem with colder weather that is setting it off which corresponds exactly with when mine was having problems-trip from AZ to Mich was fun except for the alarm)

After 4 trips to the dealer and several pissed off neighbors I convinced the dealer to refund the $699 that they said it cost. They offered me $250 refund and I said no way since the paper work showed $699 for the Alarm. Then they offered me lowjack as a replacement, I told them I did not want a theft recovery system but a theft prevention system. (Once the thieves have it I don't want it back)

They reluctantly refunded my $699 and I bought a Compustar with every feature possible. Cost me $450 installed and It's the two way system so I know what is happining with my mada.

yea but it does nothing to prevent a window being broken and someone crawling in and cleaning out the contents.

Can the Factory Alarm start your car?

The factory alarm is just fine.

You cannot hot wire the Mada to start it, impossible with the electronic code system in the keys.

I love to remote start the car to help cool it down during the blazing hot summers, not to mention with the two way alarm I am notified when someone is messing with my ride. :)

I had a jokster of a buddy decide today he would put a large zip tie in my drive shaft and let the extra make nice noises as I drive home after work...

What he did not know was when he was sliding under it he bumped the running boards a bit to much and my alarm remote indicated it so I got up and went over and looked out the window and there he on his back crawling under my mada while his buddy stood on watch for me. I hit the remote start and you should have seen this fool when the vehicle started up!!! It was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. I told him from know on when he thinks about messing with my ride to just remember what it felt like last time when he got the **** scared out of him and hit his head on the bottom of my truck.

Wait a couple weeks and pour a liter bottle of Hawaiian punch under his car (fake ATF). I really torqued a co-worker really good with this one, but this does not work with GM owners, they are used to it.
