We took our 2004 Armada to an automated car wash and we were told by the attendant that we could not send it through because the piece of moulding above the back window has a defect and the top side is just held on with double-stick tape from the factory. He said that all the car washes have been notified that when the high-pressure air from the dryer at the end of the wash pushes water under the moulding, it causes a problem with the automatic transmission and it cannot be taken out of park. I thought this sounded like a good way for me to have to pay $10 more for a hand-wash, so I went to another car wash and was told the same thing. They refuse to send my Armada through the automated wash. I have called three dealerships and they have not heard of such a problem. I then went back to the car wash and asked to see something in writing (i.e. the notification they received) but they were unable to find it. Has anyone else encountered this?

No but when I bought mine they gave a free month of car washes. I wasn't going to take the Armada through one but when I asked about using it on another vehicle they said that was a good decision. I guess they had had 6 Armadas come back with the back spoiler broken by the automatic washer.....and the spoiler piece was on a 2 month back order.

Thanks

I guess I will just bite the bullet and pay the extra for the hand-wash. After reading about the paint problems, that may be best anyway! Thank you for your input.

What was the issue with paint problems? I couldn't find anything about it?

Hey thanks, Jacksonfamily.
I can't say that I have had any paint issues with my Armada. I have been detailing cars for 14 years and have worked in a body shop on the side once in awhile. My paint is fine. I have used a Porter Cable random orbital buffer and managed to get my paint flawless, kind of like looking into a bucket of oil (Galaxy black). I have run it through a few automatic car washes just to get the road salt off with no issues.
But I would agree, I prefer hand washing to "blasting" it any day of the week.

Automatic carwash? Scary!!!

Hey gang,

Took my mada through two different types of carwashes brush and brushless. Thought it was all good but the brushless was a waste of time losta dirt left behind!! The auto with brushes even worse, it left a small marr above my passenger side door, last time I'll do that. I'll be handwashing from now on!!

Intresting reading about the spoiler problems. I had just left an automatic car wash when the spoiler came off of my 04 LE. That was over a month ago. Nissan is replacing the spoiler under warranty. The new spoiler is at the dealership, painted, ready to install. The problem is that the seven clips required to install the spoiler are not available anywhere in the country. Seven plastic clips that cost $0.38/ea. For lack of $2.66 worth of parts I am driving a $39,000.00 vehicle with pieces missing.
