Well I just spent several hours reading through all the posts and I still have some unclarified questions regarding this unit. If anyone knows the answers ... any and all info would be much appreciated!

1) From reading the posts I have surmised that video mode on the Clarion shuts down while the truck is in motion. So basicly you can't watch DVDs and drive. Is this accurate? Not like you can install a speed sensor switch since everything is internalized with the unit.

Someone had posted that they got around the issue by turning off the Clarion NICE and then switching it on after the truck was already in motion. Hmmm.. So I am wondering if that is actually all there is to it or if there are any caveats. For instance will video mode shut down as soon as you stop at a light and start moving again. Not that I want to watch movies.. but the ball and chain wants a video system and I want Nav.

2) Basicly I plan on buying a DVD player and hooking it's audio out into the Bose system so it's sound can be controlled via the steering wheel plus we'll realize all the other bells and whistles like working headphones etc.. I would then hook the video signal into the Clarion NICE unit. Sounds simple enough.. but will this work or has anyone done it this way? Am I nuts?

 Me after reading 4 hours.. I think I need a beer now.

I think I was the first or second guy to install the Clarion, but am not certain I can help you. I know the question arose about being able to use the Nav mode while moving. Well although I have yet to tap the video input, I have been able to change modes, start a new dest., or cancel and start another at 70MPH. I'm in the process of adding a back up cam but have not done so yet. I personally have not seen the drawbacks that others have mentionned with the factory NAV. Sorry couldn't be of more help.

I'm shopping for a NICE right now, do you need to get any additional accessories or does it work out of the box? I see option such as GPS antennas or cables, are those needed or I can get it at a latter date? Thanks.
The only thing you need will be a USB to micro 5 pin cable to download mp3's, jpegs, and map updates which does not come with it or as an accessory, but Best Buy carries them. The internal GPS antenna using the mounting method that I did works fine no external needed, and i would reccomend if you are going to use sirus to order the NAVSIR module becuase it hides behind the dash and all of the sirius functions are handled on the touch screen no ugly extra little screen. other than that it works out of the box. It comes with a reverse camera cable and an A/V in cable, but if you prefer to use audio out to aux in for sound versus the built in FM modulator then you will need to order that cable as well. I think the built in multi station programable FM modulator works fine in my opinion, but to each his own. Make sure to shop pricegrabber.com for best deal. You can save Hundreds of $$$.
Peace

Thanks Beast, I check Price Grabber and see it as low as $780.

I think I am going to take the plunge too. I have been looking around trying to find the answer to video playback while in motion. The answer lies in blocking the gps signal. Possibly fashioning something that can be layed up on the backside of the housing (and internal antenae), or use the exteded antenae and mount it in a way that it can be disconnected or blocked.

That or turn it off and on while in motion like someone else has already said works for them.

So I recieved my Clarion NICE today.. It definitly will not let you play video if it detects motion. Turning it off and then on while already in motion will not work with my unit.

I did test blocking the GPS antennae with my hand and this allowed me to play a video while in motion. So the answer seems to be coming up with something that will cover the dash/Nav Bezel that will block the GPS signals from reaching the antennae on the back of the nav. It only has to be temporary since my sidekick will only watch DVDs on roadtrips etc..

It is an impressive piece for the price. Now to figure out how to install it ..
