 Has anyone experienced “clutch fan” whine noise during hot weather during city driving? The service manager at South County Nissan in Gilroy Ca. told me that during high temp. Conditions the clutch fan will engage during stop and go conditions. And it is normal to hear this high whine during take off in first gear. When the vehicle is off the clutch fan is partially engaged and will not turn freely when spin. Has anyone experienced this loud “whine” like a manual transmission during acceleration in hot weather?

My Armada does it, my 740il does it, as does my X5. My wife's SLK did it as well. Come to think of it, my 92' 4 Runner did too.

I live in Scottsdale and it's really hot.. A LOT of the time.

I would rather have it run then run too hot.

Mine sounds like a giant vacuum cleaner when the clutch fan engages!

I have certainly noticed the same thing on my Mada. I took it in last week to get the brakes done and also asked about the A/C. They performed the TSB that's out on the A/C and I've noticed that the sound from the fan is different. Still there, and still noticeable, but not the high pitched vacuum cleaner sound it used to make. I can't say yet if it cools any better, but they definitely put a new fan in there!
