Does anyone know the average highway noise level in an LE compared to a QX56, or where on the web I might be able to find such details?
Should be the same for '05 and '06. They increased the soundproofing in the '05 to match the QX. The rest is the same. The '04 is louder, but weighs a couple hundred pounds less, much of which is sound proofing, which means its slightly faster. On a side note, my Armada with A/T tires is more quiet than my G35 at highway speeds. ;)

The average noise level at highway speeds is about 80 db in most vehicles. I will measure my Armada as soon as I get the chance.

I just happen to have the latest issue of C&D on my desk here at work (don't ask why), here is some measured data from their charts.

Chev Tahoe (2007) - 68 dB
Chev HHR - 69 dB
PT Cruis - 70 dB
Honda Element - 69 dB
Scion xB - 70 dB

All data are for 70 mph cruising. Full throttle is about 6 to 9 dB greater. Remember that 3 dB is double the energy (eg double the perceived noise).

Only rating I could find was 69 DBA at 70 MPH for a 2004 Armada, prior to the soundproofing being added. Seems like the Armada hasn't been reviewed by the big mags since '04.
