I took my first long trip in the new 06 Armada last weekend for Christmas, and noticed some type of electrical noise coming from the speakers. I've actually heard it before in other vehicles, but only on an occasional basis. The Mada was doing this every 4 or 5 minutes for at least 2 hours.

The sound is not terribly loud, but enough that my wife and I both would just look at each other strangely every time it happened. It is sort of an electrical noise, similar to a humming or buzzing noise from a loud transformer of some kind. It has a repetitive sound kind of like a "zig-zig-ziggity-zig-zig". (pardon my funny language efforts)

My first thought was some electrical interference from other things in the truck, but I turned off everything I could (a/c, cruise, CD). None of those seemed to make a difference. My second thought was that it was the RDS in the radio recieving signals from the stations, but the sound happened in both radio mode and CD mode.

I have an SE with no DVD or Nav, so none of that stuff is in play. Like I said, I've heard it from other car radios/speakers in the past, but never to this degree, and if it happens again this weekend (another 3 hour drive to the 'rents house) I am going to have to take it to the Nissan joint and see if I can make them hear it too.

Anyhow, if anyone has any similar experience, or just some general info about this kind of noise from the audio system, I would love to hear about it. BTW... Everything in my Armada is stock from the factory, I haven't done any aftermarket stuff yet, so the problem is definitely in OEM stuff.

you may want to check this thread out, although he had an after market radio, but it could be a grounding problem.

Probably one of two things:
1. Something is grounding out that shouldn't like a speaker wire touching ground intermittently
2. Bad amp with a short.
I've seen both. Have them track it down. ;)

Funny sound

I have the same problem, although I have it figured out. It is updates that are sent to your cell phone. If you move your cell phone away from the center council it will weaken the interference. Ther is no fix unless you turn off your cell or put it in the door compartment etc.

I am absoutely amazed. This is certainly the most feasible solution, and I wish I could have thought of it, but all the credit goes to Orlando Eric... THANKS!!

Whats funny is that I took the same trip to the 'rents house this weekend and noticed 2 things about the noise... 1) It didn't happen AT ALL on the way there (I had my cell phone off) and 2) It happened several times on the way back (cell phone was on)

One other confirmation of this... Every time it has happened, I have had the cell on, and sitting on top of the dash directly above the stereo. Makes perfect sense to me... I'll be keeping the cell elsewhere from now on.

Thanks again Orlando... you saved me several trips to the Nissan dealer to whine and complain about some weird noise, that I probably could never prove to them. :)

You guys make that sound like it's a BAD thing. I found that when I'm listening to the Bose at "appropriate" volume I can't hear the cell go off.

First solution was to set it on vibrate and tuck it on the driver's seat in front of me - works pretty well but creates a too much driving distraction.

Better solution is to put it in the convenient little tray right next to the speaker... higher volume means that the interference is louder.

The phone does that little buzzing thing (contact) once in a while, but it's not too annoying when you know what it is. HOWEVER: the buzzing sound goes on like crazy just before and during ringing. In other words, I get a maybe one-second preview that I'm getting a call.
:clever:
