I have 2005 Galaxy SE. Just did my first oil change with Mobile 1. When I pulled off the skid plate to get to oil filter I noticed alittle drain ramp to divert any oil that drains from filter over what I think is a front antisway bar....... Of all the cars and trucks I have owned(and I have owned alot) this is first tie I have ever seen this........ Hurray Nissan!!!!!!!

I know some Ford Rangers had been built with a funnel under the oil filter. I'm thinking the one I saw was from a 1995 Ranger that I was replacing the clutch on. I had thought someone else put it there, but when I was able to get a closer look it was made to be there. I'd love to see more of this or at least more cars with filter location in a better spot for drainage.

Is it true that the oil filter on the offroad package is in a different place? If so, does it still have the overflow?

I noticed the good effort to divert oil from filter location. That was cool. But I didn't like having to remove the skidplate panel to begin with. Oh well.....can't have it all I guess.

No, its not true. However the off road version has a panel on the skid plate that can be removed for access to the filter. You don't have to remove the entire plate as you do on the non off road models.

I agree about having to move the skid plates. The first 2 oil changes i had done at the shop to the tune of $80 plus for synthetic. SO I started doing it myself and realized they did not put all the screws back in the skid plate.....

Does anyone make an oil filter relocation kit for the 5.6? It would be nice to move it to a frame rail, and maybe even use a ph8 filter instead of that metal shot glass oil filter...
Amsoil also makes a bypass system that will work:

It's about efficiency. Smaller filters don't filter any less, just hold less dirt. But today's engines don't have some of the issues that older engines had. Older engines produced lots of blow by and had crappy bearings so the bigger filters where a must, but now there is no reason for it. If two filters have the same flow rate, and filter down to the same micron level then the size is irrelevant during a normal oil change interval. So, a larger filter may just be something that you want because you want it, and that's fine. I think the Corvette ZR-1 filter fits our trucks. I've never tried them myself.
