I wasn't interested much in automotive topics for a couple of years (having more important life goals) and recently I came across the new Explorer. Wait a minute, 2.3L 4-cylinder in a big mid-size SUV? Are you kidding Ford?

This should be extremely unreliable, isn't it?
Or am I too judgimental?

That thing have 270hp and 300ft torque, more than some v6 in its class, with some 20 miles per gallon not bad. I can't see myself buying an Explorer with the 4 banger turbo.

They've had an I4 Turbo in the Explorer for a couple of years, except until now it has been only a 2.0L.

Funny Ford put the 270hp I4 in the Explorer, but put the 310hp I4 in the Mustang. I guess if you want the Mustang to keep up with the others you would give it a little more giddy up. It's all about TORQUE, the 3.5 with 365hp have 350ft lb torque and I4 turbo have 270hp and an outstanding 300ft lb torque.
