I'm torn as what to get for my first .45. I really liked the Springfield XDS line but the one I was looking at was $850. I'm wondering if I should spend the extra money or just get the Glock. The XDS fits my hand very nicely and the Glock trigger guard rubs against my finger.

Are you looking full size or compact?
****EDIT*****

Originally I was looking at the XDm compact with the larger clip to make it full size. But it is impossible to get a carry permit in NY so I was thinking I might as well get a full size.

The intent for this one is home defense so it may find itself hidden in the couch or elsewhere which is another vote for the compact. Though I think full size would be better for my larger hands. But the glock is just a brick compared to the xdm

Correction - I was looking at the XDm series, not the XDs.

The one I fell in love with was the XDm 5.5" Competition Model which was around $850.

Previously I was looking at the compact in the same series:

The original idea was the Glock 21:

I just saw the Glock 41 with the MOS system - optic looks interesting:

So many guns, so little money :(

I think I should hold off from going today and just shoot my 9 at the range and think some more. Any input you have is appreciated.

The Sig 220, maybe 250, might be worth a look...

Well I just came back from the range with my HK VP9.

I had the gun jam on me when the round did not exit and got stuck in the chamber. It was so jammed I had to put it away and shoot my AR for the rest of the session. I finally got it cleared by pulling a Hercules on the slide. Turned out that the case was stuck because it expanded.

Not sure if it was something I did but it made me think about reliability and Glock just shot up on my list.

I've got about 300 rounds through the VP9, and it could stand a cleaning, but I was very disappointed in HK. The ammo was brass cased ZQ1 which people seem to like and I didn't see any issues posted about it.

I recommend the SIG P250. I have two and have put many rounds through them trouble free. The design makes caliber change easy. 9mm, .357 SIG, .45, and .40 S&W in full size, compact, and subcompact.
