Been a rough few weeks. I was in an accident in my 'Mada almost 3 weeks ago. I was by myself (thank goodness the kids weren't with me!), and neither I nor the lady I rearended were hurt...she was driving a Ford Escape.

On the way to work in the morning, heading S. on I-680. Was maintaining a healthy 6-8 carlengths between me and the vehicle in front of me. At Andrade Rd., I saw brake lights, so I started to slow down. Then I realized "oh s$!t", and slammed on the brakes. As soon as I did, I realized I wouldn't stop in time. (Note: when you're 6'2", you will be able to bump your forehead on the bottom of the sunvisor, even when you are belted in, and the airbag goes off.:crikey:

I'd estimate I was doing 50mph when I slammed the brakes, and maybe 20-25 when I hit. The CHP officer asked if I was sure about that, & I replied "Uh, no... I wasn't exactly looking at the speedo at the time". There were no other accidents or stalls, and nothing in the road. I have no idea why someone felt the need to stop on the freeway (I do know that they often do in the Bay Area...frustratin as he!! )

Anyway, hoping to get my baby back this Friday, the 12th. Stopped by the body shop today, and they said the total will be almost $12,000 by the time they're done. I don't currently have any pics of the damage since I had to go back to work and couldn't bring myself to ask my wife to go get them with our 3 week old baby. But the body shop has some they'll burn onto a CD for me. I'll come back & post a few. No frame damage, but the radiator fan & clutch were damaged, along with both fenders & hood. Front edge of drivers door slightly damaged. Multiple miscellaneous plastic parts up front...they had them spread across half the shop.

Was on the phone with the body shop last week, and after I told the receptionist what vehicle I was inquiring about, she asked if I was hurt. When I said "no", her response was "that's amazing, there's a lot of damage".

The insurance company was paying for a rental Toyota Highlander (until today, the 20 day limit). I can now honestly say that I hate Toyota Highlanders. I know they're in a different class, but it does not compare in any way to my 'Mada. The only things that are even close are better gas mileage (come on, I drive a 'Mada, what doesn't get better mileage?), and it seems to take bumps a little smoother (it is built on a Camry platform afterall). It's small, has a small engine, and only a 4-speed tranny. In the 'Mada, I hit the gas & I go. In the Highlander, I hit the gas, and a second later, I go. Armada always just seems to quickly find the gear I want without a noticable lag (or maybe it's psychic, and it knows what gear I'll want before I hit the gas...)

Was asking the body shop what they'd recommend to remove the adhesive after I de-badge it, & he said he'll do it for me  .

Can't wait to get my Armada back!!!!

Glad your okay, I do my commute in I 80 to SFO from Fairfield and yeah people just stop for no reason. They see something from anywhere and they have to hit or slam on the brakes.

Hey look on the bright side. When you rear end someone like that you are hitting them square, so your frame is less likely to get racked. Keeps things lined up once it's all put back together. Glad to know everyone is OK.

Worse yet, some of them drive 60mph on the fast lane with the cell phone on their sticking on their ears !!!
Sorry to hear about your accident. Really glad your little ones weren't with you as that would just compound the situation (I have a 5mo/old of my own).

A problem, at least in California, is that people refer to the lane as a 'fast' lane. 'Fast' is relative. It really needs to be referred to as a passing lane. If you're not passing anyone, get the hell over! If someone wants to pass you, get the hell over!

Dang bay area traffic!

Okay, I'm better now. Sorry again about your accident.

blairc, I feel your pain. I really do. Ten days after signing for my baby, I got t-boned making a left at an intersection. Lady in a 300 mercedes whips around the guy in front of her (who was waiting to make his left) and blammo, right into my passenger side where both of my kids are sitting. Miraculously no one was hurt and the mada had no frame damage. She had at least slowed down to zip around the guy. My baby was in the shop for about six weeks because of part shortages. I ended up having to take the family to the beach in a rented Explorer. Aaaarrgghhh! No power, no load capacity no rear AC no DVD. Kids hated it.
now I cringe when some one gets too close, but I'm forever grateful to Nissan for the awesome bulk of the beast.

As a former roomate once said "If you're being passed on the right, you're wrong".

Talked to body shop yesterday, and they said I should be able to pick up the 'Mada on Sat. (I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope, I hope...) Waiting for them to call me back today to confirm. Again, will post the pics I get from them.

It's got a few (pre-mature) rattles & squeaks, but man, I do love that truck! I'll probably take it to the dealer for the next oil change & have as many rattles & squeaks addressed as possible. (Gotta take some time to reaquaint myself with them all, it's been 3 1/2 weeks now.)

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!   :machinegu

Just spoke to the body shop, & the pick up date has been pushed back to Wednesday. Apparently there is a limited number of guys who can put the airbag back in, and they can't get anyone to do it until Late Tuesday.

I'm getting tired of playing this game: he tells me a date when it should be ready, I call on that day "what time can I pick it up?", "uh, we need a couple more days".

If you're gonna tell me it will be ready, Monday, have it ready of FU(&ING MONDAY!!! If you're not absolutely sure that it will be ready on that date, give me a later date. I'd rather you tell me 4 weeks & deliver in 3.5 than for you to tell me 2.5, & then 3, & then 3.5, & then 4...

STILL DON'T HAVE THE TRUCK BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS SUCKS! It's been 4 weeks now. Was told I'd have it last Wed...which turned into Fri...which turned into Sat...which turned into Mon...which turned into today (Wed.). Well, now Wed has turned into Thurs, and depending upon what time Thurs, it might be Fri. I have a meeting with a client over on the peninsula at 2pm, and class in Hayward at 6pm. So if it ain't done in the morning, it'll be Fri before I can pick it up.

I don't care if it will take 2 more weeks (ok,that wouldn't be too cool either), but tell me 2 more weeks. Don't tell me "oh, sorry, 2 more days", "oh, sorry, 2 more days", "tomorrow", "oh, sorry, 2 more days", "tomorrow", "oh, sorry, 2 more days"....(insert primal scream here).

:pullout: :mad::censor: :machinegu

Sorry for overusing the emoticons....I just want to break something right now.
