There have been several discussions in the past about the purpose of the small "vent" on the dash, below the place for the 4WD switch, to the right of the ignition switch. (see attached drawing) No one knew what it was for.
If you have the Automatic A/C option a interior temp sensor is located behind this vent. This sensor is part if the control system for the auto air. Also, the little dome located in the center of the dash is not only the light sensor for the auto headlights, but is also used by the auto air. It "sees" how much sunlight is entering the vehicle and the auto A/C system adjusts itself accordingly.
