I am installing aftermarket fog lights and I need to find a wire under the hood that goes hot when the ignition is turned on. Current draw is very low, only to operate a relay. I am having a heck of a time finding a wire or even a fuse that goes hot with the ignition. This has a piece of cake on all my other cars. Any suggestions?

Sorry, never tired. Have you tried finding the stock wires to latch onto? I would think they would be there for you already. Since they are fog lights, you could use the stock headlight + wire to trip the relay for you, and draw power from the battery. This wouldn't tax the headlight circuit and would be safe to do. It also would cut the power on the fogs when the headlights are off. You could also do this with the running lights. ;)

I know two places

There is a little black box near the battery with a snap off lid. A circuit in there goes hot with the ignition. One cig. lighter accessory plug goes hot with the ignition. You can use that to trip the relay. If you are using a switch you have to come through the firewall anyway. I'd go lighter to switch, switch to relay, and then relay to lights.

Nissan sells an Xterra switch that fits the knockout pretty well.
