Brother in law lost keys to the truck. Anyone know what my options are as far as getting new sets of keys and remote that is different from the current one? Keys were lost in the neighborhood and I dont want to just make copies while someone else might have a set.

You can buy key blanks on ebay, at a locksmith or at the dealer. Since the keys have a microchip, you will have to have them programmed. Some locksmiths and the dealer can do it. You will need to have all keys programmed at the same time, since programming one key will erase the existing data in the BCM. You don't need to worry about the old keys; they will no longer work after the new keys are programmed.
You can also buy the remotes on ebay, and you can program those yourself after the new keys are done. The procedure for programming the remote is here:

The new keys won't start the car, but they will open the doors.

It might become a costly undertaking considering that you will not only change the keys and reprogram your hardware, but also have to change the locking mechanisms on the doors to match the new key sets. Although the lost keys can still open the doors and turn the ignition, reprograming the hardware will prevent the engine from starting. Yes the thief can get in without popping the locks on the doors and the ignition, but keep in mind that some thieves can get through a lock as fast as you can put your key in and unlock the door anyways. But if I were in your shoes, since it's not my fault that the keys were lost, my brother inlaw will have to pay for the expenses!

Thanks. I have gotten a couple of estimates as far as rekeying and the cheapest one so far is $575.00. That is for the doors and the ignition.

No the computer is reprogramed so only the keys and remote that I have will start the veichle. I am not worried about the lost key....it is hundreds of miles away from me. Plus if someone wants to get into the veichle it only takes a few seconds to punch the lock out anyway.

great site for new keys and remotes

Check out streetkeys.com for new keys and remotes. They are a complete service outfit. And they are much cheaper than a dealer. If you have one ignition key, they can help. If you have NO keys whatsoever, they can help. I discovered this company after my son lost the only key and only remote to his Pontiac Grand Prix. Had it towed to a dealer where a new ignition key was cut and programmed. Then heard of streetkeys.com and got two more keys and two remotes with full programming instructions (for the keys and the remotes). Saved a bundled compared to what the dealer charged me for one key and the programming necessary to make it work.

With most domestic cars and trucks programing new keys transponder chip is as simple as going through some steps in the vehicle (ie, turning teh keys pressing some buttons so many times) with Nissan it has to be done with their computer.

Thanks for the clarification. I should have specified that my son's car has on-board programming for new keys and new remotes, which made it simple once I had the instructions.

I did check to see what streetkeys.com could do if I needed keys for my '06 Armada. They can supply keys ($26.97 each for new factory master keys) and also have three Street Keys affiliates within 15 miles of my home who can do the programming. The total for a new key, programming of the key, and a "house call" to do it in my driveway is $140.97. Seems like a good deal compared to what my dealer would charge.

keys

haha, some of you guys are reading over the questions and are unclear of what he is asking. he wants to basically change his system. you may have to go through a bunch of ordeal just to get what you want, changing key holes etc...why don't you just put up a reward sign for the lost keys? the other route, there's more than just buying new set of keys and remote, i'm not even sure if there is another way besides changing the original key holes just so they can't use the lost keys on your vehicle.
