I saw a commercial for a new Grand Cherokee RT (soon to be released) last night that said it will have a 0-60 time of under 5 seconds??? Unfortuntately I could rewind my Tivo for some reason to replay it. Has anyone else seen this commercial, and did I hear it correctly?? They show the Grand Cherokee smoking the tires at the end also. Thats seriously quick for a Grand Cherokee, I wonder how much horsepower/torque it will have. Maybe I heard the time wrong, can anyone confirm?

Edit: Just found this on MSN Auto:

"The Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the quickest and most powerful Jeep ever, powered by a 420-horsepower 6.1-liter HEMI V8 with full-time 4-wheel drive. SRT8 standard equipment includes front fascia with integrated brake ducts, new rear fascia, 4-inch exhaust tips, performance front seats, carbon-fiber look interior trim, aluminum interior trim, 20-inch 5-spoke aluminum wheels, dual exhaust with bright center-exit tips."

I've always liked Grand Cherokees, had one years ago, and it was a good vehicle. I like the look of this one a lot, pretty sharp. Going to also be pretty sleek in that it can eat a lot of older corvettes, mustangs, etc 0-60, a real sleeper.

The main thing I didnt like about them in the past was the unibody construction, I wonder if thats still the case, and also what the tow ratings will be.

You mean "Pathfinder Crusher" ? The interior of the Grand Cherokee is so tight it's not comparable to the Armada.

Yeah, it's in the 5 seater league and it can have the Cayenne or it's sibling the Mercedes ML450.

Nice, but I don't care. Give me a modern DOHC engine like the Endurance 5.6 anyday. Now DM do have a nice engine in their 4L V8 420CDi.

The SRT-8 and new model (05 and up) of WK (code name of the new JGC) are still in unibody with IFS. My previous SUV was a Jeep Grand Cherkee 2000 and I have no complaint about it. When shopping for a new SUV, the interior of the new JGC does not look attractive anymore. The little Jeep GC Hemi also has the same mpg as MADA.

For the SRT-8, you would have to stop at the gas station more often. :)

Just my $0.02 on this lovely friday. :D

Cheers !!!

we had a Grand Cherokee 1998 or 1999 model, can't remember, and i would lke to say that it was the worst jeep ever...it couldn't handle the Canadian weather very well and it use to shake a hell lot when it was slighty windy outside...scary vehicle...and in the end, the Cherokee SRT-8 is still a Jeep

I had a couple jeeps, a 73 wagoneer that I bought in 1991 with 36000 miles..POS only because it had sat for 15 year in a widowed farmers field and rusted away and the qudratrac was worn out. I also had an 88 cherokee which was the best vehicle I'd owned until now. I never got stuck in it once after putting it into 4wd. Had some electrical distributor issues after buying it used but the dealership fixed it easily....luckily the previous owner never took it to them and he spent two years with it hicuping down the road and sold it to me cheap.

I saw the comerical last night, it looks sharp but the base sticker is like $38k ouch and its small. I don't think I could go back to something that small without having a backup large SUV for the days when I need room.

I got to drive one of these at a Chrysler drive event. It was awesome fast!! Sounded great, too. But, not competition for the Armada. Much smaller, not near the same tow capacity (less than the 5.7 Hemi, if I'm not mistaken), no off-road capability with the SRT package. But, my god, step on it, and it smoked! Don't try to race one, you WILL LOSE!

I just replaced my 96 Jeep Grand "Cheekee" with my new Armada. I ended up with alot of fuel/electrical/gasket issues there at the end, but I did have almost 200k miles on it. Other than those last "one foot in the grave" issues, I would have been very open to buying a new Jeep... except the interior is horrid. I had one as a rental on business in San Diego this past fall... I was hoping I would like it, but I just couldn't. Dash was cheap and crappy looking, seats were uncomfortable, ride was no better than my 10 year old jeep. It just didn't impress me at all and I ruled it out when looking for a new vehicle.

I loved that old jeep though, and the looks of this new souped up one are pretty hot. Gotta admit though, SUV's aren't really racing vehicles, so it's just a bit of overkill. I love the power and speed as much as the next guy, but I'd much rather have the capacity, size and power of my Mada.

Shouldn't be called a Jeep. It ain't. It would compete with Ford Lightning, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Chevy SSR, etc. It can't go off road, has low tow capacity, etc. Street only vehicle. Fast though. ;)

Funny, I was contemplating whether to sell the FX45 and get this new Cherokee SRT-8. Power is awesome for an street-SUV. I dont go off road and I m sure it will get through the snow good enough. Towing capacity is low, 3500 lbs. but then I use the Armada for towing. It still a functional vehicle. The price isnt too bad, under 50k. I will get it fully loaded with an extended warranty for just in case. I still have another month or so before I make a decision.
