Hello all... I just bought an 06 Mada yesterday. She is a Majestic Blue SE Off Road. Thanks to this site I have already purchased the Xenon HID kit from Jason Burtman, and hope to get that installed prior to our first trip in it this weekend.

In reading on the Internet I noticed that the "The 2006 LE trim also receives new power folding mirrors with heat, auto-dim, and turn signal." Has anyone tried to retrofit these to an SE yet?

Thanks and look forward to conversing with everyone.

Jim,
Congrats on the new purchase, and welcome to the board! The retro fit for the folding mirrors has been discussed on the board previously and has been dubbed extremely pricey for what you get, but, here is the thread on the discussion.

Good Luck,
Paul

Welcome. I'd be interested to see how your HID mod turns out. I've been bouncing the idea around for quite some time but i've always ended up not doing it. I'm worried that the excess light would blind the heck of others.

Probably be ok if you just got the low beams. The low beams have a reflector/diffuser like HIDs do, the High beams don't. If the High beams did, they would probably be fine also. ;)

I just returned from the dealer and things have changed a bit. On Saturday we purchased the SE Off Road that was on display at the Sacramento Auto Show. However, today when it was time to go and pick it up they told us they couldn't get it for us after all. Apparently, the car was 'owned' by a competing dealer and they refused to give it up. My wife and I were very upset, especially me after having spent my entire Sunday cleaning up the garage to make room for it.

In the end our dealer was fantastic and replaced it with a Majestic Blue LE 4x4 with everything. Now I guess I won't need to retro fit those mirrors after all.

Anyway thanks for the greetings and I sure will post up some pics in the next day or two. Once I get the HID kit installed I'll post up a quick write up on that as well. 92TripleBlack I did just purchase the low beams.

Sounds like the old bait and switch to me, but I think you'll be happier with the LE anyways. (so jealous of the power fold mirrors) Can't wait to see the pics and definately want to know how the HiD's workout!!! Welcome!!

Well kinda, except this time it worked out for me instead of them. The LE didn't cost me a cent more than the other one. It's a really long story, but in the end it worked out to our benefit (for once :)).

And yes I am happier with this one, especially since I didn't have to pay the $4k extra for it.

Off Road Suspension

Have seen write-ups on the off-road suspension, and they weren't all that great. The regular suspension is harsh enough. The off-road is apparently even worse, and you don't get any on-road handling benefit. I guess you get the beefed up parts and the different wheels etc. Question is, is the tradeoff a good one.

I installed Jason's 6000k kit the other night and all I can say is "Awesome". It is exactly what I wanted. Same color as the HID's on my 7 series BMW. The kit is very high quality and the install is simple simon. I would say it is a 2 beer job, tops.:)

The biggest difficulty I had was removing the frickin headlight. Once the grill and headlight are removed there is a perfect tray to hold the ballast below the headlight, and then the ignitor mounted right up on the hard plastic support behind the high beam. Wire up the connector, install the bulb, and re-assemble.

I drove around for more than an hour and not a single person flashed me, so no issues with blinding oncoming traffic. The light output is phenomenal. Much, much brighter than stock. Now I just need my Nokya bulbs for the high beam's and fogs to finish it off (The stock bulbs look yellow and dull in comparison).

I highly recommend it.

Woow !!! Free upgrade from SE to LE? I would not complain at all when you said everything on LE, did they give you the NAVI and DVD Entertainment system as well? If that is the case, it would be helle good deal !!!

Post some of pics of the HID once you have a chance.

Cheers !!!
