Hey guys- Have a new 05 SE 4x4 and need advice on the headliner. Want to run the wiring for my Valentine 1 radar detector but looked at the "A pillar" where I usually conceal the wiring up to the headliner and visor and saw the side restraint airbag logo on the A Pillar and paused. Don't really want to set it off unintentionally but also don't want to have my radar detector exposed on the windshield with suction cups, wires, etc. Has anyone run across this and what was your experience?

No problem removing the pillar cover. It just pulls off. Use a screwdriver or putty knife to get behind it at the top and then pull it off with your fingers. No air bag components behind it. I removed the front section of the overhead console and tapped into the power line for the mirror for my detector. It is switched with the ignition so the detector powers up when you start up and off when you stop.
Appreciate the quick response. Sounds like tapping the power lead to the mirror is the way to go. So what is buried in the pillar cover then? Guess I'm not exaxtly sure how that side restraint package works. Just did not want to disturb the safety gear.

There is some wiring there, not much. What takes upa lot of space there is a large diameter steel bar for roof/rollover protection.

Depending on what the band of tinting is on the window it may reduce effectiveness of your radar detector if you put it behind the tinted area where it sounds like you might be thinking. Not sure on the Mada, but I have read about that happening with some windshield designs.

I had heard that particularly with additional aftermarket tints that have metal embedded in them. Mine has the factory "dots" around the rear view mirror. Haven't had a problem with the same setup in my Maxima. We'll see. Thanks for the input.
I put mine behind the dots, which are a plastic material. I haven't had any problems, the detector works fine.
Radar waves will be restricted only when you have aftermarket tinted windows done different technology than foil. Foils usually do not have metal particles in themselves. You can tell that window tinting done with metallic type looks greenish almost to gold with very high mirror effect and your car needs to be in the shop overnight for tint to cure. I have not heard any complaints about regular foil blocking signals.

Did your wires have a inline fuse to it? I have the Passport 8500 and the harness comes with 6 ft of wire. Did (or would) you just stuff it up in the overhead console? I do not have a sunroof and it may fit up there.
