I'll start from the beginning...

I purchased my 2005 LE new in August of 2005 for about $39k OTD. It has been in the shop over 20 times for numerous problems (as of today it has 31,XXX miles).

I contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs about 20 days ago and they have since reviewed all of my service records and today actually offered me $4500 cash
plus I keep the Armada. I told them NO, I would rather Nissan just purchase it back, as $4500 would not be enough for me to settle. With the problems I have experienced and if I planned on keeping it, it would cost me a ton just to maintain once my warranty expires. I asked if Nissan could buy it back or replace with '07 model. The rep stated they don't usually do that but he will contact their "Arbitration Commitee" and let them know I turned down the $4500. He stated most likely they will either counter offer a higher amount or agree to purchase the Armada back from me minus a "usage charge."

The way they calculate "usage charge" here in CA is they take your current mileage and divide by 120,000 and then multiply by the "purchase price" which would mean an estimated $32k to me.

I am hoping they counter offer with at least $8k so I can just go out myself and trade the Armada in and put the $8k down. I will definetely buy another Armada...either an '07 which Nissan is offering a $4k rebate or an '08 which has $2k rebate. Either way I will be happy just to start fresh with a new Armada. I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks.

If you do get the 07 I can tell you with the up most confidence it is a more reliable vehicle then the 05 and you will be happy I'm sure. As for the 08 although its uses a lot of the 07 parts the inside is new and you might discover rattles and electrical problems over time. Good Luck!

Good Luck with the negotiations.

Being a new owner, it speaks volumes to me that you are willing to come back to Nissan and the Armada after some many problems.
The Armada is the perfect blend of power, comfort, handling and size - but Nissan really needs to tighten up either the design or build - wherever the problems are occuring. I have a window rattle that the dealer cannot seem to fix and other misc. issues but over all I love the truck.

However, when comparing it to my M3 it is not built as "tight". Not to say that BMW does not have it's issues as well but sqeaks and rattles just wreak of poor build quality to me.

I would like to say that I will get another Armada when I'm done with this one (it's only a 2007), but I may have to look into Toyota if the new Sequoia gets the tough-guy treatment that the Tundra has gotten.

Its good to start over new every now and then. I suggest that you get the 2008 Armada. I wouldn't want an outdated car. I hope it works out!

Good luck, man. Having any problem with a vehicle is EXTREMELY frustrating. I have an 07 and you won't be disappointed.

The California Lemon Law states that the useage charge is calculated from the first occurence of the problem that caused the buyback. DON'T LET THEM USE THE CURRENT MILEAGE!!!!!! When I had my buyback on my 04, they calculated the useage charge based on 800 miles, even thought I had over 17K on it when the buyback occurred.

No worries about getting ripped by a reputable company like Nissan....they will calculate the fair value of the truck and compensate you according to the law...This is handled by Nissan not by a shaddy stealership!!!

I myself went through this exercise with an 2004 LE...it took them two weeks and refunded me back the buy price minus $1000 for 12 miles I put on the vehicle...I was living in California at the time!!!!

If you settle and keep the truck, mostly the truck will get a lemon title with DMV which will make it very dificult to sell it or trade it in.

Get a cqash settlement and move on to a brand new 2008, which are awesome looking and have all the bugs fixed...Good luck!

Been there done that with my 06 altima. Dealer let me trade it in and gave the payoff value for it! This is my 4th new Nissan and everyone has had problems. Two to the point of arbitration (01 sentra/06 altima). And now my wife is breathing down my neck for me to trade in my Titan for an Armada.

Thank CAMPFAMILY AND 08smokeLE...I am still waiting on Nissan to get back to me after I declined the $4500 settlement. I will be sure to bring these points up for the settlement.
As a backup negotiating tool you could always say that you have been speaking to a lawyer (the friends at Clubarmada) who is very anxious to handle this matter for you...just in case you don't get what you want by straight forward talking...Corporate does not like lawyers and bad publicity...they will not go that route.

Good luck!

Nissan as a corporation will do whatever they can to minimize the impact to their bottom line. I think you are giving Nissan way too much credit. If they think they can get away with paying you less, they will, trust me. Make sure you know the California lemon law inside-out before you deal with Nissan (or any corporation for that matter). That's why I got a lawyer to handle my buyback, he knew exactly what to do to maximize my payoff. Now I have my 06, and couldn't be happier (although, the 08's do look pretty nice.......)

Well I finally got the letter I have been waiting for...Nissan agreed to buy back my Armada for full purchase price minus $1400 for usage fee. Pretty fair in my opinion as I have had it for almost 2 years and racked up 32k miles...

Now I need to decide on what will replace it...Most likely an '08 LE...
Or I may just wait for the new Toyota Sequoia to come out. That 5.7 V8 is pretty sweet.

decisions,decisions,decisions....
