Procedure for 2 degree timing advance

Many of us have had good results advancing the initial timing by 2 degrees. Listed below is the procedure to make the advance, using the Consult 2. You will need a Nissan dealer to do this. You should print out the procedure and take it with you to the dealer.

Warm up vehicle.
On CONSULT 2 screen choose ENGINE
After communication with Convertor will display a bunch of choices.
Press WORK SUPPORT
See more choices, press TARGET IGN TIMING
Press UP x2 for 2 degrees, correction which you should be able to see.
Press UPDATE.
Now press BACK
On the menu screen find IDLE AIR VOL LEARN.
Press, and perform to correct your idle since you just raised it 75rpm with timing advance.

I've always advanced my timing in my cars and have gotten hp, 0-60, and 1/4 mile time gains. The only disadvantage is that you need to use higher octane fuel to eliminate the knock you get by advancing the timing.
I haven't tried this with Armada yet.

SCR38, did you get any knock after advancing the timing? Did you also get increased performance?
I'll speak for myself and say no. Performance increase...I can't say as that I've really noticed, it may of knocked a tenth off my 0-60.

No need to use anything other than 87 octane. You will not get any knock. The advance eliminated the off line bog, and reduced my 0-60 and 1/4 times.
Good info but I am not sure if the dealer would willing to do it without a charge. Besides, the service advisor might ask why you want to do it and threaten to void the warranty and yadda, yadda, yadda ....

Just a thought.

The dealer may not do it, and if he does there will be a charge for doing it. (unless you know someone). Most dealers get around $75.00-$85.00 to connect the Consult. There is no problem with the warranty, since the Consult won't let you do anything that is outside the design limits of the engine.
I had my advance done when I had the A/C TSB done. Since the Consult had to be used to do that I asked the tech to do the advance while he had the Consult connected. He did, with no charge.
scr38,
I have a 2005 armada and i live in Bahrain.our ecu in the middle east is not like the US ecu. I got the scangauge2 and it did not work with my ECU, so i had to return it back ( what a lost).anyway,,,, we have a 98 octane in Bahrain ( yes believe it and i love it).I have the volant combo and after 2 weeks i will get the stillen long tube headers with a custom exhust system.Do you think that i will need the 2 degree timing advance? what is the default timing you have in US?I will check with the dealer here and will let you know. I think our timing is not the same.
Thanx.

I think the timing is the same. Factory timing is 15 degrees BTDC; plus or minus 1 degree. You won't have to get the timing advance, but it will help your performance.
scr38,
I will check with the dealer and if mine is on 15 degree then i will go for the 2 degree advance. can we go more than 2?it is limited to 17 degree?
Thank you
Two degrees advanced is all that will stick in the ECM. You can advance more than that with the Consult 2 connected, but it won't stay. My advance was at 16 degrees when they advanced it, so I now have the initial timing set at 18. Your initial may be 14-16 degrees; the two degree advance will add two degrees to whatever your's is.
scr38,
Thanx man,,,, I will let you know when i go to the dealer.
Thank you for the info.
Somebody told me the 2007 is already at 2 degrees advanced. Anybody know if this is true?

Yep. That's how they increased the HP.
ive also heard the vvt they added to the engine also gave it a couple of horses also.
The 07 timing is not set at 17, but still at 15.
I did the advance on a 07 last weekend at the Houston meet (I did advances for 7 trucks there). The 07 was at 15, I moved it to 17.
Most of the 12 HP gain came from the VVT on the intake cam (and the necessary ECM program for it). There is a very slight change in the intake manifold and exhaust system that may have added to the gain.
scr38 Thanks a million!!! Found a Tech here that will do mine for $50.00, taking it in next week. This is AWESOME!!!
now that I'm Educated, I will hit my dealer up to get mine done this week, my Mada is an 05 and I remembered when I bought it I looked at the QX56 as well and major engine diff was Mada 305 HP and QX 315...You think that is due to the advance being standard on the QX??
The 2 degrees timing advanced is the best mod you can get for almost nothing. Those who haven't gotten it done, should. It is an awesome mod.
What's the estimated HP gain doing the 2 degree advance? Will my fuel mileage drop? How bout pinging, will I need to use higher octane? My shoes squeak any easy fix? lol
What's the estimated HP gain doing the 2 degree advance?

Can't really say. The dyno shows a increase, but we can't get readings below about 3,500 RPM. There is where the most gain comes in.

Will my fuel mileage drop?

If you keep your foot in the throttle enjoying the new performance it will drop. Drive like you usually do and there won't be a drop, maybe even a slight gain.

How bout pinging, will I need to use higher octane?

You can still use 87 octane. No pinging.

My shoes squeak any easy fix?

Yeah, take them off!
