I'm looking for opinions on air intakes and exhausts from members who tow trailers. I want to do the CAI and catback system but am afraid the hill pulls will get too noisy. I like the idea of more power, possible fuel savings, and a little aggressive presence as a daily driver. But, pulling hills from So Cal to NV or NV to UT might make for a louder trip than necessary. Besides, I just "quieted" my trip with headphones for the kids DVD players!:D

Thanks all

Personally, in my opinion, I like quiet vehicles, there is too much noisy stuff out there now and like you said, the long pulls up hills would get tiresome with a loud truck. Long distance towing with a loud truck would get old quick. Maybe I have heard one too-many open pipe Harley too-many, but I am beginning to dislike other peoples loud stuff invading my space. I can understand that you would like the sweet sound of the Nissan V8 to be more robust, but some of the bystanders may not.

Cillyone, how does your Armada handle the 80 grade with that tailer? I use to live in Eldorado Hills just outside Sac. I use to pull that hill with a half-ton Dodge (small 318 I think) and a 19' trailer that weighed 5k plus loaded.....it wasn't pretty!

I've done that grade a couple of times with our 26 footer (5500#'s), no problems. Can easily hold 60 mph, unless I get behind a slowpoke! But then, I've got plenty of power to get back up to speed.

Have not done that grade yet, but the Armada has not had any trouble with any other grades I've done. It pulls virtually as hard as my previous 7.4L BB GM Vortec. I am considering a 3/4t diesel though, I think towing 8K# will wear out the Armada prematurely. I think long pulls are easier on a truck than tight switch backs with repeated acceleration and braking. IMHO the Armada is the premier 1/2t tow vehicle, but realistically should be 8K# Max with 7K# very comfortable.

I'm with Cillyone on this one. As much as I like the way the engine sounds, it was plenty loud pulling through the mountains of WV, especially when it had to downshift to 2nd.
