Questions about the Prodigy brake controller?

Hi,
We have a 2005 Armada LE and I just got the Prodigy. I got one with a Nissan connector and it hooked up ok, but there are a couple of things I haven't been able to figure out.

1) Where have you guys mounted it on the dash? I am thinking about mounting it directly under the steering column where there is bump out of plastic. Every other place it seems to be in the way of something. Anybody have photos of their brake controller installed?

2) I am sure there is something simple I am missing, but why is there still power to the device when the car is off? The only 2 trailers I have pulled are a small seadoo boat (no brakes) and my 23' Contender (brakes but not electric). Is the brake controller applying the brakes to a trailer even when the car is stopped and turned off? Does this unit draw a lot of power? Do you guys remove the Prodigy when you aren't towing?

Thanks
Tony

That LED is on anytime you have a trailer plugged into the socket at the hitch. Don't worry about the power draw; it is very small.
I mounted my controller to the right of the steering column. Since I don't use it a lot I have it mounted with Velcro. I put a Molex plug (from Radio Shack) on the wires from the controller, and a mate on the pigtail from Nissan. That way I unplug the controller and pull it of the Velcro when not in use. You can store it in the console, glove box or one of the overhead compartments.
Mounted mine slightly to the left of center of column, right next to the hood release, it does not interfere with my right leg there. I think you will like the Prodigy. It won't kill your battery.
Thanks everyone!
I'll probably end up using the plastic holster that came in the box to mount it. And just to double check I called Tekonsha and asked their tech help line about current draw and they said, just don't let the truck sit for 2 months.
I also mounted mine just to the left of the steering column. I keep it in it's case in the center console when not in use (used the quick connect plastic clip).
I took off the lower cover and mounted the holster with 4 small bolts. Mounted it to right of column. I wish I'd mounted it slightly farther back than I did, b/c the key fob can tap it. My knee will occ touch it. I take the holster out for my non towing season.

Can you post a picture? I have mine mounted under the dash, just to the right of the steering column, and I'm not real happy with it there.

Thanks!

Don't have one, leaving town suddenly (funeral).... I'll try to take one and post it later. Currently it's not even mounted.
I purchased the Prodigy and the Nissan wiring/adapter, however I am having difficulty locating the Nissan wiring connection underdash (white connector). My Armada is a 2004 with the towing option. Can you suggest where I might locate the factory wiring? Thanks, Paul
DONE:
The dealership and a team of their mechanics found it tucked away above and to the left of the parking brake pedal.

Love the Armada (Godzilla) and Murano (Son of Godzilla); using the "right tool for the right job". One provides power and size the other compact and economical.
Mounted mine in front of the hood release and used a 4in strip of aluminum to resess it under the dash a bit. It stays in the center console when not in use since I got the pocket option.
Here is how I mounted my controller:

ToyHauler, thats exactoy how I have mine mounted. Except I put a 1" block of wood(as a spacer), shaped about the size of the Prodigy so that I see it a little better. It allows it to clear the plastic and some forward slightly.

It is a white connector , taped to the wiring harness left of the steering column.
Look at attachment.

This picture does an excellent job of showing where the connector is. BUT, you don't have to remove the bottom of the instrument panel to get to it; you can reach it from underneath the dash. Take a look at page 9-21 in your owner's manual, there is a good description of where the plug is. Once you know where it is, it's a piece of cake.
