Rear Differential Question

1920 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  92TripleBlack
My Armada's rear differential is making a clicking or banging sound from park to reverse or departure when rear diff fluid is hot. No banging sound when it is cold. Is this normal? The dealer told me to bring it in hot so they can duplicate it. I need to drive at least 50 miles to get the rear differential fluid to get hot. I know that the rear differential has a bit of a play in it.

Thanks in advance for the info

There's a TSB out on clicking from the rear axles (not specifically the diff).

How many miles on your current diff fluid? Other than changing out the diff fluid, I can't think of anything you could do on your own to fix this.
Thanks for the TSB info.

It only makes the clicking sound after driving for an hour or more. My Armada has 7,500 miles on it. When vehicle is cold, I can shift from park to reverse or departure, and it doesn't make the banging sound. The dealer cannot find the clicking sound when cold. I do not tow anything. The wife drives it most of the time. Should I print out the TSB and bring it to the dealer?
