rear heat

Okay, I turn on the rear controls and set it to the right, heat side, and I hear the fan running but nothing comes out of the overhead vents. I can't feel anything under the seats either...though I just read in the owners manual that it may take 90sec to come on?

I was originally pissed that they had screwed up putting in the overhead console until I turned the control to the cool side and it started blowing. My question is if you want heat in the back to come out of the overhead what do you set it on?

rear knob only controls the air flow.

I think the overall heating and cooling temp is controlled by the main temp (RED/Blue) knob on the dash as in the one you would use for the front. the only thing the RED/BLUE knob in the overhead console does it move the air output either above or below the seats. If you sit in the 3rd row you can feel the air come out at the floor when you have the rear setting to heat.

I think the idea being that heat rises and thusly heats up the air it is pushing up and cool air falls and thusly does the reverse effect coming from the roof.
That what I thought. The entire ac/heat thing is overly complicated in these things...ac means cold and heat both, the ac never shuts off if you turn on the defrost for more than 90sec??? they should change the rear knobs to get rid of the color if it has no control over the temp....
Statement Recant.

I'm gonna have to recant my previous statement, the rear heat/climate control button does control rear heat/cooling however the temperature conincides with where the air comes from, if you set it to the roof vents, then the air is cold, if you set it to the floor the air is hot, regardless of the setting up front.. I discovered this on a recent trip to St. Louis when it was cold as you know what out side.. I had the heat on full blast in the front but had the rear vents set to the roof setting and all that would come out was cold air, when I set it to the floor setting, the air was nice and hot.

I guess the thing to do is let the Truck decide where the air is coming from and just set the knob to your desired temp.
rear controls

In mine I thought the floor vents for the 2 nd row, and the middle console vents were controlled like a car (ie..from the front). The rear floor I thought was 3rd row, and the rear roof console was both 2nd and 3rd, blowing cool air. When I was on along trip it worked fine to have the setting on both....reasonable comfort..but this would be too cold from the start. I use the air flow to help keep the condensation off the rear side windows. If anyone knows for sure that would be great.
defrost???

I keep seeing this problem about the A/c being on when the defrost selection is chosen. With mine I just hit the A/c button and it shuts the A/c off. I have never let it stay on for more than the 90secs. someone had reported though. Is this the way it is supposed to run......stay on during the defrost???? I know in humid states like Florida it makes perfect sense, but in the dry state of Colorado I never need that function.

That sounds as though it is functioning as intended. A lot of cars turn the A/C on when you select defrost for the precise reason you stated. The A/C dries out the air to prevent the windows from fogging. The difference would be in most cars you can't override the A/C setting like you can in the Armada.

Eric
I dont think you can override the AC setting in defrost. In fact it will stay on even if you change the setting from defrost to another one. That's what I have found from Nissan dealer. In order to turn off ac you have to turn off Engine and set a non defrost setting and then turn the engine back on. I tried to turn on and off the AC and even though it will show the AC light going on and off, the AC will stay on as long as the engine is running if you previously set the defrost on during that engine on period. Pretty weird
I saw a how-to for disabling a Xterra's ac/defrost on feature. Probably something similiar could be done on the Armada/titam I would guess.

here is the how to that I found

Yes...this is the proper operation -- it bugs me too sometimes..but that's how the manual describes the operation of the defroster. I do think they have a bug or two to work out of that system...I wish they would offer a flash update to the controller or something along those lines. I especially hate having to hit the recirculate button everytime I make a setting change or turn it off.
Rear Air

Yeah, that thing with the rear vents kind of freaked me out too. It does make sense though with the heat/cold theory. I did't realize you could turn on the cool air in the rear while the heat is on in the front. I thought maybe it kind of worked like the rear volume control. I don't really like that at all. My kids(teenagers) want the headphones blasting but it will only go as loud as the front volume.
That annoys me as well.. battery powered Radioshack headphone amplifiers work really well, though. Unless your kids are using the wireless headphones.
Offtopic but if you use wireless headphones the wearer controls the volume leve. You can get IR headphones fairly cheap. Sony has some headphones MDR-IF0230's that I got off ebay for around $20 shipped. They dont have a lot of paddidng though. I found some good ones for $25 at Fry's. They have a padded ear pad. I couldn't find them of Fry's website but here they are at cardomain

Anyone find a mod for the roof vents to blow hot air?

The leather doesn't warm up to well on rows 2 and 3 with heat only blowing from the floor.
