Remove dash kit?

2542 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Jason B
I'm considering buying an 04 LE with what I assume is an aftermarket wood dash kit. It looks nice, but it's not my thing. Unless of course I end up getting used to it. Anyhow, can these be removed? Would it ruin what is below it?

TIA...

I don't have the kit, but I think its attached with the 3m adhesive, don't take my word for it, but if you check the wood dash kit threads, you might find what you are looking for
Thanks...I scanned through them, but found nothing related to removal. Hopefully someone has an idea.
My guess is it will be a huge effort to remove. I'd be a little worried using chemicals to take off the adhesive for fear of washing the paint off the plastic too. Check with JasonB from Burtmans, he sells the kits so he probably has some idea of what it takes to remove.
Removal of dash kit

Carefull application of a heat gun will allow the removal of a dash kit. Apply heat while lifting the piece to be removed. I have used needle nose pliers to grip the piece while heating (it will get hot). Any leftover adhesive can be removed with additional heat or light application of Goop adhesive remover.

I have the Burtman Red Burl wood dash kit on my Armada 2004 and love it. I believe Jason said that it can be removed for those especially that are only leasing their Armada.

This is correct with our kit, but MOST other kits require the use of a "adhesive promotor" that you wipe on before install - they use a cheaper adhesive that needs this to stick properly. BUT, when you remove the kit, the factory plastic underneath will be discolored. You somehow need to find out who made that kit.
