Reverse camera wire tap?

Hello all,

I am wanting to tap into the reverse camera wire and map it to an Empty button on the dash so I can kick the camera on when I want to.

My thought on this is that I often carry cargo on a tray but cannot see it. Sometime I would like to also see any trailer hookup status without having to stop and put it in reverse or having to get out.

has anyone ever done that or know where I might start on that project?
