That's gotta tick you off. In Oregon, they have undercover cops posing as bums (I'm sorry, homeless or dwelling challenged citizens) to scope out people driving without seat belts. They then radio a patrol car to pull them over and give them a ticket. They issued 41 tickets in one night. I guess there aren't any drug dealers, hookers, or thieves to harrass anymore in Oregon. Also, I thought the federal law stated driving without a belt was not an offense you could pull over someone for and that you needed some other moving violation to issue one. Unless Oregon has its own law, this isn't legal.
I am a seat belt user. I also can speak to why you want one as I broke a windshield with my head while riding in a cab that was t-boned. But I still often forget to put it on until I take my first corner. After sliding in the seat, I remember I didn't put it on. I'd be mad as heck if I got a ticket for no belt while pulling out of my driveway.
This sting smacks of a police department more interested in generating income for itself than protecting the public. :censor:
