Tire pressure sensors and new rims

So Im looking at putting a set of 22s on the car this weekend and wondering how many people have also swapped the tire pressure sensors into the new wheels? Has anyone done this and how easy/difficult is this?

I was going to get the tire shop to remove my wheels and dismount the tire to get the sensor off and remount it and then mount the sensor on the new wheels and mount and balance. Not sure if its that easy. Need to know if the sensors are held into place with a large band clamp around the wheel itself or just held into place with the bolt that I see on the valve stem area.

Many posts in the forum indicating that it is very easy. However, I did not swap mine. I left them in the stock wheels for winter use. So I ride around with the "(_!_)" indicator light on. Really it was because I didn't know until my light came on that the sensors were in the wheels. I rode around for a month before the light came on. Over the winter swap out I will get another set of sensors and install them in my 22s.
Tire Pressure Sensors

All wheels don't accept the sensors. I was going to buy some American Racing Maxim 22's and they said that the spokes will hit the calipers and the sensors wouldn't fit. So you should call the wheel manufactuer to find out.

I didn't swap mine either, must be a Marylander thing, LOL. I have a habit of paying alot of attention to the condition of any car I dive anyways (that includes tire pressure), so I didn't feel it necessary to swap the TPMS over to my after market wheels.

Maybe it is a Maryland Thing! Hehe.

I worked in the transportation/vehicle management field for 15 years and I have learned that the best preventive maintenance is paying attention to your vehicle and knowing it's limitations... and your own! Gotta check the TP regularly. Look your vehicle over before driving off each day. Just a little walk around can detect the random nail or screw on the ground in front of your tire. That will not stop the ones on the highway, but if you are paying attention to how your vehicle is driving, you can detect the small leak and get it fixed before a blowout or rim damage!
Some wheels do accept the tire sensors, but sometimes you have to take it to the dealer to reset the sensor once you removed it from the stock wheel, and I think they charge $40.00 each.
I went to the shop today and the guy said he swapped the sensors on a QX56 a few days and was fairly easy. My question is to ggeogie, why do you believe it needs to be reset by the dealer once you remove it? They are similar to GM sensors, they are small boxes secured via just a bolt on the valve stem, shouldnt need to reset it since you are not clearning anything on the sensor itself.

You are right there is nothing to be reset, just be carefull when swapping the sensors not to mess with the O rings, many tire shops can do that for an extra $40.00. its very expensive to purchase new sensors from the dealer ( about $80 to $90 each) and offcoarse they need to be activated by the dealer. sorry for the confusion:cool:
whats the biggest rim that can fit on our cars??
Some have already put 26's on their ride.
So I got the 22s on there and no issues with the sensor swap. Didnt need to get them reset or anything. It just took about 5mins for them to register with a pressure on the nav screen.

Heres the picture of it now.

Wheels only cost about $1100, then wrapped them in 305/45/22 Kumho.
Hey Dixit, how do you like those kumho's? Are they quiet on the road? Thanks.

That's a sweet deal for chrome 22's. Where did you get them for that price?

The display just shows the pressures. It doesn't tell you which is which.

And as I understand it, it can't tell which is which because each sensor sends out its own signal. IF manufacturers decided to start selling LF, RF, RR, LF sensors, then we could expect that you'd be able to tell the difference on each one. For now, it seems that they're content just selling one TPMS unit for all 4 wheels.

Why are they so freaking expensive though? Is there any cheaper, but quality, aftermarket alternative?
