I just came from the dealer where he said that they have had problems with larger than stock rims with wheel shimmy. He said if you do a lot of freeway driving at high speed (@ 75 mph) you are guaranteed wheel shimmy with larger wheels. He said both Infiniti QX and the Armada have the problem (and nearly every SUV/truck does as well). With all the posters on this forum, its hard to believe that 20 or 22" rims cannot be balanced that well (not to mention 24"). What is the truth here? He said the balancing machines can only get it so close and you will have to accept the rest!

I have 22's on mine. The shop that I bought my tires from does a good job of balancing the tires. I dont feel the tires doing anykind of shimmy when going above 70 and I do alot of freeway driving. The only time I have that kind of problem is when my dealer rotates the tires. I would then have to bring it to the shop to get it balanced which is free of charge at Les Schwab.

Bad Advice

Sounds like your dealer doesnt know how to balance tires (figures). Any reputable tire shop can balance your wheels for you. I have had 22's for 2 years and no problems........

Thanks guys for your input - it seemed pretty odd. I live in North Scottsdale and I see 22's and 24's all the time - it didn't really make sense. I guess I should just take the dealer with a grain of salt! All of the above wheels look sweet - I've got my sights on a pair of 22's. I want the tire sensors to work correctly and I'm hoping they do (the dealer did say that the sensors should work fine).

That is false!!! However....she will ride no where near as good due to teh weight of the wheel and tire pressure. You will also wear the hell out of your front end. Big wheels come with an over all price......they are...all show and no go.

I myself have 22s and have not encountered any problems with vibrations from poor balancing. I've driven my Armada over 80mph and still rides smooth. I wouldn't recommend going to the dealer for help regarding aftermarket applications, maybe for some things, but not all. I found the forums the best source for information. The folks you'll find here have experienced first hand any problems pertaining to the Armada. In most cases, they have corrected the issues themselves. So for short, to find the answer(s) start here first, then when it requires the dealer's attention, then go there.
