Thanks for replying.
I've been reading up on the CA and TT forums for days, watching YouTube videos and saw the same opinions and recommendations about upgrading the whole system due to it not making that much difference increasing the sound quality of the stock Bose system. However, I take what they say with a grain of salt. I actually like the sound of the Bose. Yes, the acoustics are not crystal clear and the frequencies are muddled at high volume, but its good enough for a 50 yo former deejay and producer married with 4 kids and a self proclaimed sound snob. I listen to bass heavy tracks too, but the 6 in woofer in the plastic box works for me in my truck. If I can just get a little more quality out of the sound by adding a new modern day head unit with a premium line out controller, I'll be all smiles.
Now, if after I get it all wired up and the audio is worse, then I'll be back on these forums asking for help upgrading the stock door and in dash speakers.
I just don't see any photos from anyone with the same wiring config to reference and I dont want to spend another $300 on a GeekSquad install when I know I can figure it out. My conceptual configuration is in the attached photo. Just bought some 9 wire today which I'll have to use to add space between the Head unit, LOC, and wiring harness because I don't see a 6 ch LOC fitting behind the head unit in the dash.
Also wondering if I can fit my atoto 720dp rear view cam in the same spot as the stock cam instead of placing over the license plate. Will work on that today.
I'm 2 weeks post installation, so here's my update.
I didnt want the challenge and didnt have the time so I splashed the cash and got my Atoto S8 Pro Android HU, Atoto HD03 Backup cam, radio antenna and Metra SWC harness and 2 din dash kit installed at Best Buy for $200 by paying for their Total Tech Service (1 year subscription). Install would've cost me $324 without it. The technician didnt configure the virtual panoramic view backup cam so at the time of this post, it's still not producing the right birds eye image. He also threw away the checkered calibration cloth that comes with the cam, but I contacted Atoto customer service and they've sent out one to me at no cost by Fedex Ground so I can calibrate the camera myself. I was told by Crutchfield that I had to purchase a line out converter/LOC with this head unit to use with the Bose stock system, but since it comes with line level RCA outs, Best Buy was able to use those to wire to my stock amp without the LOC and it sounds fine. My steering wheel controls/SWCs also work perfectly. I get volume up/down, and a select feature to move around pages using SWC buttons. The stock nav screen still works and shows the heat/AC and volume settings while the HU screen is on. Thought I'd have to live with a dark extra screen on my dash.
I paid $350 for the Atoto S8 Pro and I have no regrets. Tuning the EQ in the HU makes the audio sweet for my tastes. Of course the stock sub woofer has stock quality sub bass, but it's good enough for now without an upgrade. I dont care what anyone says, this head unit is the best bang for the buck and is quality. It pairs extremely well with the Armada LE Bose audio system and looks, sounds, and feels just as nice as like a $600+ head unit. Nothing like the typical $100 Chinese android units out there today.
