--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey y'all:

I replaced the stock headlights on my 06 Armada LE a few days ago with the Sylvania Silverstars. I used the appropriate silverstars to match our oem wattage. I've been very happy but I dont thnk there is a huge different in terms of lumens output. Yes, the light is whiter but more lumen output is questionable. My question is: can we or should we use the high beam silverstars on our low beam light housing? The increase wattage would increase lumens but my theory is that since the lamp housing is not as focused it should work and still not be as bright as the highbeam silverstars. THe net effect of using high beam silverstars in the low beam housing would be great lightoutput but not blinding like high beams. This mod should better equal the HID from the QX56.

High beam lights for our truck are 9005's, if I'm not mistaken. They have a different plug than the low beam 9006's do. In order for you to make them fit, you would have to modify the harness for the low beam plugs.

I would suggest HID's versus trying to modify harnesses and using 60 Watt bulbs vs. the 55 watt in the same location.

Good luck!!

Hey Doc,

You've got a nice list of mods there would you please post some pics or direct us to somewhere we can see them.

Thanks!

I just got the HID's that were recomended by Triple black and love them, they are much brighter and give me a better view of where I am going. I got them off of ebay in the 6000k version.

GasDoc, I dont recommend wasting your money on some light bulbs that dont even work. I personally am going with the HID's but I am not going to get an HID kit. I am actually going to go through HIDtech. These people can convert almost anything headlight into an HID headlight. See, I prefer the OEM look rather than a kit. The housing of the Armada isn't made for HID lights so that is why you would need to convert the housing and put a projector in. Now, for some that have HID kits that is the best way to go if you don't want to take to much time and still get outstanding results. The fact of the matter is that you will get what you want if you do it right the first time and so ditch those bulbs. I saw a thread posted some time ago from some guy here that retrofited his MADA lights with HID's. Tell you what man, they looked awsome and. Check out these sites for more info.

So what's this OEM look going to cost you?

quick pics of my mada

YO casinojames:

Here's the pics of my stock and silverstars installed. I also included pics of my borla exhaust. The music it makes is sweet. NOT TO LOUD but definitely noticeable and loud under extreme acceleration.

Will take some interior pics with red burl installed.

camera back housing

ggeorgie,

The backup camera is standard with the 06 tech package. I didn't bother with the dvd package b/c it was a rip off. Will install headrest visual logics dvd when the wallet recovers from the holidays. :)

silverstar vs oem lights the same

arnni

I agree the light output is not noticeably different. The pictures were taken a few seconds apart. Same phone camera same angle no change in settings. You can see that the silverstar (the first picture) has a whiter (looks more clear) light whereas the oem bulbs are yellow. The fogs which I have not replaced are really yellow. A partner of mine said for fogs you really don't want white bright lights since the reflection from the fog would be worse on your eyes. I don't know how to respond to his comment but Walmart was out of the silverstar fogs.

For y'all who haven't done this mod....do it. It's really not that much price wise and a very easy install.

You can put the high beam lights into low beam sockets. It requires no perminate changes to the car, but you DO have to trim the high beam so they will fit. I did this to my highlander and before we sold it I took them out. We just got our 06 mada and I put them into it last night. The light difference is amazing and much better with the high beam bulbs.

I'll try to get a write up put together this weekend, with pictures.

are you sure?

Yo armada bro...

Are you sure you don't have to get different wire harness for the silverstars? Someone posted that the highbeam bulbs would not work on the low beam wire harness. If this is not true then let me know how you did it.

Thanks

I'm 100% positive. All you need to have tool wise are wire cutters (not to cut wire) or a razor and some needle nose pliers. When I have the mada tonight I'll get the camera out and take pictures and put together a how to. It will take you 10 minutes.
