Hello all. I am considering purchasing a 2005 LE. The dealer allowed me to take the vehicle home to see if it would fit in my garage. At about 50 mph the steering wheel started to shake and there was a loud "shuddering noise" . It dissipated at about 75mph.

The car only had approx. 25 miles on the odometer. Can anyone tell me if they have found this to be a common problem, especially in a new vehicle.

Thanks.

Sounds like the wheels are out of balance (maybe a weight had fallen off).
Very brave of you to drive through it :awesome:

I would seriously reconsider buying a vehicle from a dealer who gives test rides in poorly set up trucks or cars. Sounds like they have done a good PDI (not), well as good as mine here in Saudi: half the wheel nuts loose, no water in the washer bottle, 48psi in the front tyres (sorry tires) and 30 in the rears among other things.

Sounds like it has one of a couple possible problems.
Most likely is poorly aligned or balanced tires.
Next could be if it is a 4x4 in 4H or 4LO modes. These aren't meant for street use.
The brake rotors are being replaced for free by Nissan right now, but that shouldn't crop up with that low a mileage. I'd have the dealer do a roadforce balance on the tires and alignment. This should clear it up.

Thanks for the input. I think perhaps the wheels are out of balance or there is a problem with a CV joint. Either way, I don't blame the dealer.....at least not yet.

I truly enjoyed driving the vehicle. I have had nothing but positive experiences from Nissan (owned a Maxima) as well as Infiniti (owned a G35). I hope I can expect the same from the Armada.
