Dear Members,

We are very excited to announce that we are live from the new platform! We have been working hard over the past few months with leading design and product firm to deliver a cleaner, faster and more engaging experience for you and your community. We have leveraged XenForo tools and features but added layers of modern design and technology to make the site run faster, smoother and overall be more reliable. All of the valuable and informative content archived within your community is still here, even though the layout may look a bit different. Check out some of the new improvements:

Engage with your community wherever you are and on the go!
The site is optimized for all screen sizes, including mobile. All features are available and ready to use on all devices.

Speed and reliability are the foundation of this new platform.
No one should have to wait for information. This site has been built to be much faster and more reliable, period.

Easy to use and navigate.
We have made the design clean and simple to focus on the areas the community uses the most and removed the clutter. The collapsed menu by your profile avatar will provide easy access to the most popular topics as well as Showcase and Gallery to view the latest photos from your fellow members.

Show off your own collection.
We have introduced “My Showcase” for you to build and display images of your own collection or wish list to the rest of the community. This is your opportunity to upload often and share your passion!

Feel the pulse of the community.
Your home page now features the most active topics, viewed photos, recommended reading and top contributing members. This will help keep you the most up to date on what’s happening in your community.

These are just a few of the great new functions and features to try on the site. Please take a tour and look around! If you have any questions, please check out the HELP section for some quick FAQs about the new platform, https://www.clubarmada.com/help/

Please let us know what you think about the new experience, your feedback is important to us.

Thank you all for your support during this amazing journey!

Hey Everyone! :)

We are happy to reach out and let you know about another update to the site software today. Our hope is to provide continuous improvement and respond to your feedback. Here are some things to look out for:

Email Identifiers:

We have updated the email templates with the new site logos so you should always know that the community email communication is safe and legitimate.

Showcase Details:

Your showcase details page design has been updated and should make it easier to view, react and comment on community pictures. If you haven’t started a showcase yet, upload now and start your collection!

Just some things I've noticed, but I'm a relatively new contributing member of the community, so take these with a grain of salt. The below are all for the forum viewed on a normal computer. From my limited interactions with the mobile site, it seems to be an improvement.

First, URLs in posts seem to have no viewable differences from normal text. I had to add underlining to a link to make it easily visible.

Next, some things I've noticed:
  • There is no obvious way to see new posts from the last time you've visited. You can view "Trending Discussions", but you just have to try and remember the last post you viewed since there seems to be no visible indication whether or not you've viewed a topic.
  • You can see in the title of the page (on the webbrowser tab or window) a number if you have notifications/alerts, but again, it isn't obvious when you pull up the page that you have to click on your profile to view it. Might I suggest having a separate button for that.
  • The logo for the forum, clubarmada_com.svg, and the favicon are not viewable at my work. This is likely due to my company's firewall and I realize this won't affect most users, but it might be nice to have them hosted on the same server as the forum, so you don't have times when they aren't viewable, either due to firewall settings or the hosting site going down.
Finally, a question: Is there a way to type bbcode in forum posts? I've tried that a few times, but it seems like this new software only allows using the WSYIWYG editor (or non-standard bbcode, which if the latter is the case, I haven't found a page that documents what's supported), which I find frustrating at times. I've been using bbcode for almost 20 years and sometimes WSYIWYG doesn't do what you want it to.

Like most of us, I am a creature of habit, so it takes me a bit to get used to changes. I was lucky enough to get the chance to play with the new platform before they went live with it so I am already getting used to it. I have to admit that I am crazy about it. It feels so much faster and is easy to use after a brief learning curve.

1. In dark mode, links are not as visible. That is something they are working on improving.

2. (New posts) From the navigation, near the upper right-hand corner, click on the trending button.

This will open a new page where you can click to choose “new posts”.

You can also choose to “mark forums read” on that same page.

There is also a filter on that page to set your preferences on what you want to be displayed.

3. Are you referring to alert notifications? If you click on your avatar near the upper right-hand corner of the site, you can check your alerts at any time. If there are alerts/notifications you haven't seen yet, there will be a number. (just click on alerts.)

4. I am not certain if we can change where logos/favicons are stored. They are served from a secure location.

5. Not all BB code is supported. You should be able to find all your formatting needs in the icons within the editor.

Good to know. I didn't realize it was just related to the dark mode. Actually, based on my link below, it seems like this issue is now fixed!

I am already aware of that page (and it is what I visit frequently), but there doesn't seem to be any indication on what threads have been updated since the last time you visited. Most forums I've been on have some way of indicating that, usually by an icon or having the topic title be bold. I like to read through each and every post on a forum that I'm interested in and right now, you just have to look through the list until you find the last post you remember reading. It would be nice to have some sort of visual notification that there are new replies on topics since you last viewed them.

Yes, those are what I'm referring to. It took me until today (I'd been on the forum several times each day since the change) until I found it was located under my profile (granted, I wasn't looking that hard). It would just be nice to have it be a bit more visual. If it were me, I'd swap the "New Post" icon with an alert icon, since I imagine the new post button won't be used very frequently by individual users.

4. I am not certain if we can change where logos/favicons are stored. They are served from a secure location.
Fair enough. Like I said, this is not going to be a common problem and is only a minor inconvenience while I'm at work.

5. Not all BB code is supported. You should be able to find all your formatting needs in the icons within the editor.
That's a bit unfortunate. Sometimes it's nice to be able to tweak the code itself when the icons in the editor don't function as desired. Do you know if there's a page somewher that documents what bbcode is accepted? (Something like this?)

Thanks for your time!

Good morning! My apologies for the delay in response to this. Regarding the unread content, the forum icons and thread titles to change when something is unread, on light mode the forum icons go from red to grey and the titles bolden, on dark mode the titles bolden and the icons are a little less dynamic. The go from one grey to another. As you can see here: Dark Mode.png Light Mode.png

Regarding the notification icons, I'll bring your suggestion up to the design team and see what they think :)

As for your BB Code listing, I'm not sure if this software does that but I will ask people more in the know. I do know that the basic styling bbcodes are present in the editor but I'll see if I can get you what you're looking for, thanks again for your patience!

No worries about the delay. I know life can be busy.

That seems quite visible with the light mode, but on dark mode, it's almost impossible to notice until it's pointed out. And I was more specifically referring to the "Trending Discussions" page, as that is where you are easily able to see all the latest posts/replies on the forum. I believe it makes the text bold, but it is still really hard to differentiate between read and unread. Maybe the design team would be able to tweak some things to make it a bit more noticeable. Maybe play with the text coloring a bit, change the background color for the div, or actually change the size of the text (since the text is already pretty big, making it bold might be less noticeable at that size).

Regarding the notification icons, I'll bring your suggestion up to the design team and see what they think :)
No worries if nothing happens with it. I tend to throw out a lot of ideas and just see what sticks.

It looks like maybe my issues with bbcode have since been resolved. I know I was having issues with urls, bold, and italics, but I just tested them all now and they're working again. So, my thanks to the team for getting all the wrinkles ironed out!

Dear Community Members,

In an effort to bring you consistent improvements to your community experience, you will receive update notices from us frequently. These updates are based on continuously supporting the technology that powers your community as well as introducing new and improved features based on your feedback. We have released another platform update today and here are some key things to look out for:

Following

Following a thread is a great way to stay up-to-date on the topic, and receive alerts or emails when there are new replies. Thread subscriptions and watched threads are now called “Followed”. Threads are referred to as “Discussions”. Your followed content can be accessed by clicking on your user avatar, and clicking “Following”. We have improved the performance and added view counts to your followed discussions to better organize your favorites.

New Posts

Looking for the latest posts in the most popular discussions? These are easy to find using the quick link at the top of the page to head over to popular discussions. There is a tab that lists new posts specifically so you can stay on top of “what’s new”.

Dark Mode

We have heard great feedback about our new dark mode. As one of our favorite features, dark mode allows you to access the site with a power-saving and easier on the eyes layout. You can access it through the right-hand drop-down menu. We are continuously improving the readability in this low light state. Let us know what you think!

Performance

We are constantly testing new ways to improve our performance and the speed of the site. Your feedback and experiences help us to diagnose any issues and deliver improvements. We have added to our infrastructure recently to provide more horsepower and there are continued improvements to page performance coming in the next couple of weeks. Please continue to send us your feedback. Your insights are extremely powerful in helping us to support your community better.

clubarmada.com,

We have more great updates to share with you this week based on your feedback and the use of your new community platform. Continuous improvements are core to bringing you a reliable and increasingly better site every day. Here are some key things to look out for in this latest release.

Sticky Discussion Threads

Some discussions just need to be read! These are sticky and we heard feedback that sometimes it was hard to tell the difference between the sticky discussion threads and the regular discussions. We have updated the design and layout so now sticky discussions have a pin beside the title and a large grey bar at the bottom. We hope this makes it easier to browse the content and find the information that is most important to you as a community member.

View Counts

There were a few areas of the sites where the view counts were not showing consistently. We have addressed the display issue. We hope this helps you find the most read and popular content more easily.

Recent Searches

Our new search service is a great way to find information on the site. Even better, your site will remember your most recent searches to help you find information more quickly. The search bar is always on the top of the site, whenever you need it!

Performance

More performance improvements! Fast loading pages are just better for everyone and we couldn’t agree more. Please continue to send us your feedback and let us know if you see an improvement, we are constantly working on making the site faster and faster.

Your insights are extremely powerful in helping us to support your community better. Please keep them coming!

Thank you,

I would still love to see a bigger differentiation between read and unread posts on "Trending Topics" when in dark mode. Right now, it seems unread are just bolded, and while you can tell after looking at it carefully, it isn't immediately obvious. Maybe if the background of that post was a slightly different gray or pick a slight different font color it could help make them more obvious.

Hopefully you can see what I mean with the above picture that it is not immediately obvious which posts are read/unread (when you look closer, you can probably realize that this thread is read and none of the others are).

Why is the BBB logo/link displayed so prominently? It's a paid ratings company, like Yelp. e.g. pay more money to the BBB, and you get a better rating. They mean nothing, and aren't linked to the quality of any business.

It's like walking around with a coffee mug that reads, "World's Best Dad" or paying for Twitter followers.

I agree. Both the BBB and GDPR logos are so prominent and provide little benefit where they are. If the site administrators want them on the site, they really belong in the footer of the site. Let that area be dedicated to something more useful for the forum.

How To Multi-Quote

Step 1
: Click the multi-quote icon at the bottom of each post that you want to quote.

Step 2: Scroll down to the text editor where you are going to write your post. Click "Insert Quotes".

Step 3: A small window will pop up for you to verify (or delete) quoted content that will be added to your post. Click "Quote messages".

Final Step: The quoted content will automatically be added to the text editor. Add your comments and click to post your reply.

Added Notes: You can multi-quote from more than one discussion thread in the forum. You can also simply highlight the part of the text you want to quote. A small popup will allow you to choose the multi-quote option using just the selected content.
