What Gear Oil To Use Front Differential

1948 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  muchomojo
The owners manual says that 80w-90 gear oil should be used for the front differential, but there is a note that reads "For hot climates, viscosity SAE 80W-90 is suitable for ambient temperatures above 0° C (32° F)." No alternative for cold climates is provided. I called a few dealers in cold climates and they all stated that they use 80w-90. Do you all agree with the dealers?

Great question. I am in the same boat getting ready to change mine out. Currently 18 degrees at my house. What did you end up doing? I am wondering about the rear also. Everybody is saying 75W140, but my owners manual says 75/90. A lot of different opinions out there for sure.
