2011 Armada SL. I replaced the tailgate handle and the old one had this switch on it but it wasn't hooked to anything.

did you new handle have this on it? why did you have to replace the handle?
i think its part of the lock system-- a sensor . did you purchase this car used? did it have the camera on it? wondering if a previous owner had to swap the handle for some reason...

Do you have a power liftgate? I think its to control the power
lift gate mechanism from the handle.

The mounting bolt broke off one side of the handle. No power liftgate which is making me wonder if this one came from a scrap yard before I bought the truck.

yeah that my question -- its possible the original factory handle may have broke or replaced with a salvage/fleabay one that came from a power liftgate model.

The pigtail connector is to the microswitch located in the handle. It is for a power liftgate. I have replaced one in my Armada handle long ago.

I can assume you do not have a power liftgate and only connect a release cable into the back of the handle for manual operation otherwise your rear tailgate would not open. Speaking from experience with the power liftgate.

You could take microswitch off and sell to someone. That exact microswitch is hard to come by. I had to order one from a German electronics supplier. Hope that helped clear things up for you and everyone else.
