Whattya call THAT thingy?

Hey... I thought I knew as much about engines as the average Joe, but I wonder... Who can tell me what this little fan does (see the red box on attached picture)? I need to explain it the service adviser  at my local dealer (see the dealer paper plate in the same picture). I just went in, had some radiator mounting bushings replaced, and didn't get rid of the vibration. When I look at the fan (engine running for a while and warm), it's vibrating. I can put my finger on it and push a little (puts pressure on the mounting hardware?) - Voila! the vibration stops.

I don't know what's it's called, but is that the fan that is so loud that it sounds like the Armada is about to take off?
Maybe the A/C compressor or condensor or ??
fan for the transmission
Transmission cooler fan - thanks!

We took a little trip to Mexico just before Easter - stayed a week at Campo Punta Bufeo. Although the place is a little slice of heaven, the road getting there is one of the lower circles of hell. :191: We vibrated and bounced the whole way down. Coming back I let down the tires too much and ended up with two flats on the rear (story for another time).

Vibration may have caused some issues, one of which is that now the tranny cooler fan is loose and rumbles when it comes on. I can feel light to moderate vibrations in the steering wheel at idle - when I push lightly on the fan, the vibrations stop. Having a hard time getting that through to the very nice but sorta dim service "advisors" at the dealer. :clueless: We will resume this saga at the dealer on Tuesday.

Maybe find a different dealer with a different service manager. They generally aren't known for their prowess at IQ tests. ;)
I went in for the new rotors today and had them order me a new Air conditioner and heater - Condenser fan #92120-7s000. They say I’ll get a post card in the mail when it comes in. my service guy said this is something new that is just starting to pop up

Not good news. Hope this doesn't become a new "brake issue."
Let us know how it turns out.
That fan is for the A/C condenser. There is only one bolt holding it. Jet Tech came up with a easy mod to stop the vibration/noise problem. Look here:

Let's see how the TECH likes it.

I am printing out the pix of Jet Tech's fix to take to my dealer this afternoon. I already talked to the airhead :duh: service advisor and found out that they don't think it's a problem (in other words, they don't have a TSB yet). This leads me to think that they are fine with doing nothing.

They have not seen the last of me... :machinegu
"Characteristic of the vehicle"

Ever heard that one? I went around with the Service Manager and checked some of the Armadas on the lot (and in the service bays - two were getting the brake fix...) We wiggled the fan on mine by hand, then did the same trick on the other 5 Armadas. Both used ones had detectible movement. But to my surprise, so did two of the three new ones! service manager declared that he would consider it a "characteristic of the vehicle" until he heard something different from the factory. Ugh! I guess I'll have wait on more of you to also complain, live with it, or else do the 'Jet Tech' fix.
Well I had a problem with my fan. When it would come on, it would sound you just cranked a lawn mower. Took it to the dealer and found out that the blower had loose bearings. Dealer ordered new blower assembly and problem is now gone :D !
Vibration Started.

Today my fan (tranny cooler or A/C condensor I'm not sure) started vibrating. So those who have had the problem. Is it easier to do a self fix or take it to the dealer (which means it will probably happen again)?
Look at this TSB. You could take it to the dealer or do it yourself:

Also, if your Armada is in this TSB, have them do it. The new fan makes much less noise than the original:

I noticed lessened AC output this last fall (stays hot here pretty late in the year) but didn't get to the dealer to get it addressed. I will most likely go in after it heats up enough to tell the AC is weak (could be March, here).
Missed the cut

Mine was built in 04/05 so I suppose I should have the new fan assembly. I'll get the TSB done when I take it back in for the seatbelt assembly they ordered for me.
