So here's a question - I'm a few days into my new to me 08 Armada, and I'm loving it. But the dealer offered the "wrap" warranty to go along with the CPO warranty. The miles I drive, I would benefit for about 3 years and 50k miles.

How reliable are the Armadas? Parts seem to be fairly expensive, especially things like the control screen, Bose stereo, etc. I also assume computers and stuff are crazy.

I usually don't consider the extended warranties, but in this case I'm undecided. They are offering the 7 year/100k wrap for $1400. He says he's doing it for $50 over his cost. Not sure I believe him, but I'm more interested in what I might expect for repairs based on the experience of all you guys. The truck has just under 50k miles now (which is why I'd have about 50k and 3 years to take advantage of the wrap).

So vs the CPO only, is it worth it? Can't decide...

Thanks!

CPO Wrap

Hi Steve. I would suggest you look at our problems section to get an idea as to what you may encounter with your year model armada. When I bought mine, I went with a certified vehicle and added the nissan gold extended warranty. So far, I have had to replace both exhaust manifolds, one at about 65k and the other at about 84k. Other than that, I have experienced the brake problem where it seems as if the antilock unit is malfunctioning and the truck makes an outrageous noise when you brake. Other than that, the truck has been pretty good. Check out the problems section and pay attention to your model year. Good luck and welcome to the club. Most of us here really love our trucks! I know I do!

Thanks for the info. I did poke around in there on your advice. It's so hard to tell what the failure rate is, as you only read about the issues. But I've been leaning towards it, when I consider how much some things cost, like the radio, or the display screen, etc, etc. Seems like one or two failures could pay for it. Not sure though....

GET THE WARRANTY! I have an SE 08 with similar miles as yours and my transmission failed without warning on Friday. I had it towed to dealer and their servicing it now. So get the WARRANTY!!! My truck is under warranty to 100k so if they need to replace my tranny so be it..:D Your radio and other electronics is nothing compared to replacing a $5000.00 transmission or $7500.00 engine. Get the WARRANTY!!! TODAY!!!

Wow, sorry to hear that! Are you covered by a certified pre owned powertrain warranty, or a full extended warranty? The way I understand it, using your case as an example, the transmission would be covered under the CPO warranty, that I didn't pay extra for. Just the $50 deductible. But the computers and stuff that go with it, would not be. :( Lame. But I'm leaning towards it. I need to tell them tomorrow either way. But I guess for piece of mind, it may be worth it to me. I hate to spend it if I don't end up needing it, but that's exactly what it is, a gamble.

I have the Security Plus Service Agreement from Nissan. It covers everything like a new car warranty bumper to bumper no deductible:D and I'm glad I got it. My transmission trouble turned out to be something minor with a easy fix. The trans coolant hose broke and sprung a leak which made my trans to stop working. They replaced the hose and filled the trans with new fluid and everything seems to working normally.:D I will be watching for any unusual shift patterns for the next several days:rolleyes:...but for now she's running great.:D Getting extended warranties are always a gamble, but when and if you need it you'll be glad you gambled.

Not sure if that's what I was offered, but I do know it's a Nissan factory backed wrap warranty. I'll confirm tomorrow. I was told them same though, that's its basically a bumper to bumper...

I just figured, buying a truck with 50k miles on it already, something could very well go wrong with the 4wd system or something else that the CPO warranty either doesn't cover or only partially covers. With the wrap warranty, you are limiting your investment to the cost of the warranty throughout the warranty period.

You have folks on this forum who have over 130,000 miles on their odometer and say they have yet to have a major problem with their Armada. Then you have those with only 30,000 miles and all hell has broken loose with their truck. So you never know what could happen...staying on top of your maintenance is your number one defense against mechanical break down. But I got the warranty just in case...

Thanks. I'm actually less worried about the powertrain, and more things like electronics, motors of hatches, windows, etc, etc. Whether or not it would add up to the cost of the warranty over the 3 years I'll benefit from it is another thing...likely going to just get it and be done with it.
