2012 QX56 Smart Alternator IPDM cable disconnect?

Hello all,

My wife loves her 12 QX56, purchased 4 years ago w/58k now has 92k. We've had the non start issue for awhile. At one point I removed the plug in cable from the negative side and charging was great, I have to have it smogged yearly here in NV so I don't like the idea of unplugging the sensor cable because there has to be something else it does aside fron stopping the smart charger ( alternator temp sensor?).

Anyway , sorry for running on, can someone please tell me the number (picture/location) and color of the wire I can cut in the box so I can put couplers on for smogging purpose, the sensor disconnect doesn't throw a code on the dash when disconnected but it does leave it in the system, need to reconnect 1 week prior to smog date to reset.

Posted this question in the Infiniti forum too.

Thank you everyone in advance.

Put the clip on for smogging and then take it off after. If you jack the Red Wire, its a "not good."
Besides why risk it when a simple clip unclip over an hour will do. Unclipping, if you have had it off for a few days or so will not cause a nonstart unless your battery is weak.
So run without the grey clip for a week or so, unclip, get smogged, pull round the corner and unclip so you charge on the way home LOL its easy to do.

Don't do the red wire cut, its dicey and unecessary.

Thanks Bob, I do feel more comfortable uncliping the battery current sensor cable and leaving it off for 51 weeks then reinstalling prior to smog and so on.
Does anyone have any long term info on leaving the sensor unclipped for this period of time?
In reading the system description from the 2012 QX56 charging system manual "battery current sensor detects the charging/discharging current of the battery" do others agree this is all it does?

Thanks

FYI: Mine has been unclipped for years and it does nothing other than keep my battery fully charged like other cars. No other codes are blocked, no issues.
