2019 Platinum --Thule Roof Box on Stock Cross Bars

Unfortunately, the OE cross bars become just about decorative when wanting to use a cargo basket or roof box. On my QX80, I installed Rhino Rack Aero cross bars and never bothered putting back the OE cross bars. The first time I mounted a Kuat Vagabond XL cargo basket with no load, the basket was just shaking because the OE cross bars was flexing up/down.

Rhino Rack aero cross bars on my QX80 and just like what @TheDo114 had mentioned, I don't even notice any additional wind noise and I drive with the sunroof open or tilted just about every time I get on the road. Even with my current setup that consists of Rhino Rack bike tray roof mounts x 2, I barely hear any difference.

How do they attach to the rails? Are they clamped? Or do they wrap completely around?

Looking for crossbars to mount a RTT.
They clamp onto the side rails. The bottom of the clamps have a slight inward curve so it actually locks down a bit on the underside of the side rails.

No need to waste money on the OE cross bars. Whether you opt for the Rhino Rack or Thule cross bars, either set will be rigid enough.
The RR aero bars come with plastic barreled locks which is easily removable. I did buy the optional master key locking end caps, about $30.
